#StorieDiPiume #Red #Wild PETTIROSSO - NOME SCIENTIFICO: Erithacus rubecola Ordine: Passeriformes Famiglia: Turdidae Piccolo passeriforme dalla forma rotonda e dai grandi occhi espressivi, il Pettirosso cela sotto l'aspetto dolce e mansueto un'indole orgogliosa e aggressiva. Lungo appena 14 cm, ha il dorso di un colore bruno-oliva, ventre bianco, sottili zampe rossicce e un'inconfondibile macchia rosso-arancio su petto e faccia, che caratterizza maschi e femmine della specie dai tre mesi di vita in su. Molto vivace e attento, si muove sul terreno con lunghi balzi, curvandosi per un paio di passi e poi arrestandosi all'improvviso in posizione eretta, facendo vibrare ali e coda come se volesse mettersi in mostra. I boschi di conifere sono il suo habitat naturale, ma può adattarsi anche a zone antropizzate quali giardini, siepi, parchi delle aree urbane e boschetti. Infatti, pur essendo piuttosto schivo, il Pettirosso può avvicinarsi guardingo all'uomo, ad esempio quando, lavorando in giardino, smuove dalla terra vermi e insetti, di cui la specie è ghiotta. Di indole battagliera e solitaria, il Pettirosso non mostra abitudini gregarie: possiede un senso di appartenenza territoriale molto spiccato e non ammette l'intrusione di suoi simili nel proprio territorio. Non è raro osservarlo mentre scaccia in malo modo e, spesso, aggressivamente chiunque osi avvicinarsi al suo regno; gonfiando e mostrando minacciosamente il petto color fuoco, scuotendo ali e coda, oscillando da una zampa all'altra ed emettendo un fraseggio del proprio canto, in segno di avvertimento. Il senso di territorialità diviene ancora più accentuato quando condivide il territorio con la propria compagna. Quando arriva la stagione degli amori, il Pettirosso abbandona infatti la consueta solitudine per corteggiare la femmina, arruffando le piume del capo e della gola e offrendole del cibo. Già alla fine dell'inverno, si formano coppie fisse che cominciano a difendere un proprio comune territorio. Il nido viene costruito tra le spaccature dei tronchi d'albero, oppure ai piedi delle siepi, in una piccola cavità vicino al suolo, ben nascosto tra foglie di edera; addirittura all'interno di oggetti dismessi e abbandonati dall'uomo (tubature, bottiglie o bollitori da tè abbandonati, scarponi, scatoloni sono solo alcuni esempi di siti “idonei”). Il nido si presenta come una piccola coppa rotonda di steli intrecciati, imbottito di foglie, piccole radici, muschio o peli. Sei uova bruno-pallido vengono deposte tra la fine di aprile e l'inizio di maggio, e covate dalla femmina per circa due settimane. Una volta nati, i pulcini vengono allevati da entrambi i genitori per circa 15 giorni, pur continuando in seguito, anche per diverso tempo, ad essere “imbeccati”. Spesso la coppia effettua due nidiate: alla nascita della seconda, è di solito il maschio a occuparsi del nutrimento dei nuovi arrivati. La dieta del Pettirosso è molto variegata: si nutre principalmente di piccoli molluschi, lombrichi, insetti e larve, ma è ghiotto anche dei frutti che offre il bosco: bacche, more, mirtilli, ribes, fragole, lamponi. La specie è diffusa in tutta Europa fino al Circolo Polare Artico e dall'Atlantico agli Urali; alcune sottospecie abitano l'Asia Minore, le Canarie e l'Iran. Gli ambienti preferiti sono costituiti da aree alberate non troppo dense, fresche, ombrose, umide, con altezza media o alta, porzioni o margini di terreno scoperto e posatoi idonei. Evita, al contrario, ambienti scoscesi asciutti, ambienti aperti, paludi con vegetazione bassa. A seconda dei contesti è più frequente nei boschi di latifoglie e occupa anche parchi e giardini; specie resistente e provvista di grande capacità di adattamento, è in grado di utilizzare quasi tutte le tipologie boschive, seppur con densità differenti.
