Iris Tigrata Il genere Iris raccoglie circa duecento specie di piante della famiglia delle Iridacee, il cui fiore è comunemente conosciuto anche con il nome di giaggiolo. Il nome del genere deriva dalla parola greca Iris che significa arcobaleno. Il genere è caratterizzato da un fiore attinomorfo (a simmetria raggiata) con tepali saldati alla base in un breve tubo. I tepali esterni sono ripiegati verso il basso, e sono dotati di una fascia di papille chiare; i tepali interni sono ripiegati verso l'alto. Lo stilo è diviso in 3 porzioni coprenti gli stami. Comprende specie erbacee e perenni per lo più rizomatose.
