E' risaputo che, a differenza della maggior parte degli uccelli, che iniziano a covare dopo la deposizione di alcune uova perché i pulli della nidiata nascano quasi contemporaneamente, nei rapaci, notturni compresi, la cova inizia appena deposto il primo uovo. Questo perché, nel caso non ci fosse cibo a sufficienza, i fratelli piu' grandi mangerebbero i piu' piccoli aumentando così le possibilità di sopravvivenza dei piu' forti. Succede così che tra il primo e l'ultimo nato ci siano grosse differenze di dimensione ed i piu' piccoli fanno fatica ad accaparrarsi il cibo per l'estrema voracità dei fratelli più grandi. La coppia di allocco nell'immagine ci ha però dato modo di osservare un comportamento poco descritto sui testi sacri dei depositari del sapere ornitologico abituati a studiare gli uccelli dal divano del salotto piuttosto che sul campo. Una delle uova si era schiusa con otto giorni di ritardo rispetto al primo nato ed il piccolo aveva dimensioni tali da correre il rischio di essere sopraffatto dai fratelli. A questo si aggiungeva che il maschio, unico nella coppia a procurare il cibo nei primi giorni di vita dei pulli in quanto la femmina sta a difendere i nidiacei, portava esclusivamente topolini che gli altri tre piccoli allocchi si spartivano senza che l'ultimo nato riuscisse a cibarsi. Fu qui che osservammo un comportamento straordinario, quasi umano, che mai avevamo riscontrato nelle altre coppie di allocco seguite in precedenza. La femmina, durante un nostro appostamento, abbandonò il nido, lasciando la covata indifesa, cosa molto strana che ci preoccupò tanto che pensammo di smontare tutto e ritirarci di buon grado. Ebbene, un attimo prima di scendere dall'auto dalla quale, attraverso un monitor collegato ad una telecamera seguivamo l'evolversi della situazione, e smontare tutta l'attrezzatura, ricomparve la femmina. Rientrata nel nido, imbeccò il più piccolo con un maggiolino appena catturato. Gli altri nidiacei cercarono di aggiudicarsi l'insetto ma la madre riservò attenzioni solo per quel figlio che noi pensavamo destinato a morte certa. La stessa cosa fu ripetuta per ben quattro volte durante il nostro appostamento. Tornammo al nido una settimana dopo ed il piccolo godeva di buona salute, questo significava che la femmina aveva avuto una cura particolare per il nidiaceo più in difficoltà. Non sappiamo se il giovane allocco ce l'abbia fatta, quando più di due settimane dopo tornammo sul posto, il nido era vuoto. A noi piace pensare di sì. Di certo rimane una straordinaria ed indimenticabile esperienza vissuta insieme a Luigi ed ai nostri amici della notte. Un saluto. Sergio #Sguardi
