Il tempo di Kamakhya è considerato il monastero più sacro dai devoti di Shakti. E' un crogiuolo di fedeli e sadhu che provengono da tutto il paese e rimane il tempio in cui si svolgono il maggior numero di sacrifici animali. Decine di caprette e piccioli vengono sacrificati tutti i giorni per ottenere la benevolenza della Dea Madre . In un area attigua al tempio centrale i monaci preposti, dopo una breve cerimonia e dopo il lavaggio, sacrificano le caprette decapitandole su di un apposito patibolo. E' indubbiamente una scena crudele ed il disgusto è acuito anche dall' odore del sangue ma aiuta a capire un culto complesso e, sacrifici a parte che per noi sono incomprensibili, non certo privo di fascino. Il momento del sacrificio è ritualizzato e vissuto con rispetto ed alla fine la capretta viene scuoiata e la carne restituita ai richiedenti del sacrificio così potrà essere mangiata. Fin dalla prima volta in cui sono stato in questo tempio anni fa, ho pensato quale potesse essere il modo migliore per raccontare questa scena: il momento della decapitazione è troppo forse e credo che, gli ultimi istanti di vita dopo la " benedizione" siano il momento più intenso.
