La bellissima merla qui visibile fu fotografata nel giardino locato all' interno di un' abitazione privata situata in pieno centro a Bologna dove... assieme ad altri suoi simili e pure anche ad altri uccellini... volava spesso per sfamarsi in una improvvisata mangiatoia che veniva tenuta sempre ben fornita di cibo dai padroni di casa... che la avevano preparata per loro e anche allo scopo di poterli poi così osservare abbastanza da vicino... visto che oramai tutti gli alati commensali lì intervenuti si erano abituati alla presenza delle persone... e pure a quella dei paffuti e pacifici felini domestici lì dimoranti che... avendo sempre la pancina bella piena... come anche la loro generosa ciotola dei croccantini... pure questa occasionalmente visitata dai merli golosi come alternativa alla mangiatoia sospesa... se ne stavano perennemente a sonnecchiare senza mai degnare i volatili anche di un solo sguardo. Da ricordare che i merli sono monogami quindi una coppia diventa indivisibile per tutta la durata della vita mentre per ogni nuova deposizione di uova viene abbandonato il vecchio nido e ne va sempre costruito un' altro tutto nuovo. Sulla pennutina visibile in questa fotografia... e anche su tutti gli altri merli... esiste una leggenda molto antica e che ha pure alcune varianti. Si ritiene che potrebbe avere avuto origine all' epoca dell' Antica Roma quando il calendario che allora era in uso fu modificato (calendario Giuliano circa 45 A. C.) ed al mese di gennaio... che precedentemente aveva 29 giorni... ne furono aggiunti un paio… forse dopo averli tolti al mese di febbraio che difatti oggi ne ha solo 28… ed uno in più ogni 4 anni. La narrazione inizia raccontando che in un passato lontano lontano il piumaggio dei merli era di colore bianco poi... alla fine di gennaio di un' inverno particolarmente freddo e rigido... una merla si rifugiò all'interno di un comignolo per riscaldarsi ed a causa della fuliggine là presente le sue piume si macchiarono talmente di nero al punto che da allora il colore di codeste... per tutti i suoi discendenti... diventò nero per i maschi e grigio e marrone scuro per le femmine. Da quella leggenda nacque poi il racconto popolare in cui si menziona che gli ultimi giorni del mese di gennaio... il 29, il 30 ed il 31... divennero noti come "I Giorni della Merla"... e che potrebbero pure essere i giorni più freddi dell' intero anno.
