Lo scorso 2 novembre… proprio nel giorno in cui commemoriamo i nostri defunti… è venuto a mancare l'ingegnere Mauro Forghieri… noto anche come “Furia”... colui che è stato uno fra i più grandi ed estrosi progettisti che il Mondo della Formula 1... e non solo... abbia mai annoverato fra le sue fila. Nato a Modena il 13 gennaio 1935... dopo la maturità scientifica si era laureato in ingegneria meccanica, nel 1959, presso l'Università di Bologna. Nello stesso anno entrò in Ferrari dove già suo padre Reclus era impiegato da prima come tornitore di precisione... mansione che aveva brillantemente svolto anche durante tutto il tempo della durata del II Conflitto Mondiale presso le Officine Meccaniche Ansaldo di Napoli... per poi diventare un'ottimo motorista presso il Reparto Corse della stessa Ferrari. Nel 1961 “Il Drake”... Enzo Anselmo Giuseppe Maria Ferrari (1898–1998)... nominò Mauro responsabile del Reparto Tecnico per la progettazione e costruzione delle vetture di Formula 1 e per le Sport Prototipo partecipanti al Mondiale Marche. Fra tante altre cose sono di sua progettazione i primi alettoni aerodinamici apparsi sulle vetture a ruote scoperte… utilizzati a partire dal Gran Premio del Belgio corso sul circuito di Spa-Francorchamps domenica 9 giugno 1968 dove tale alettone venne montato sulla Ferrari 312 n. 22 del neozelandese Chris Amon (1943-2016). Tali apparati... atti a rendere più stabili le vetture alle alte velocità... in breve tempo verranno riprodotti e adottati da tutti i costruttori partecipanti al Campionato Mondiale di Formula 1... e non solo... nelle più svariate forme e configurazioni. Forghieri fu progettista e direttore tecnico della Scuderia Ferrari di Formula 1 dal 1962 al 1971 e poi dal 1973 al 1984. Sotto la sua direzione... in codesta categoria... le vetture del Nero Cavallino Rampante ottennero 4 Titoli per il Campionato Mondiale Piloti e ben 7 per il Campionato Mondiale Costruttori. Altri Titoli Mondiali… con vetture di sua progettazione… furono vinti nel Campionato Mondiale Marche... detto anche Campionato del Mondo Sport Prototipi... e nel Campionato Europeo della Montagna. Lasciato l'incarico in Ferrari… nel 1987… “Furia” entrò nel Team Lamborghini Engineering quando la Automobili Lamborghini... che era diventata parte della Chrysler... tentò l'avventura in Formula 1 con il Modena Team Lambo mentre nel triennio 1992-94 ricoprì l'incarico di direttore tecnico della rinata Bugatti a Campogalliano (Mo) dove venne prodotta la vettura sportiva EB 110. Successivamente entrerà a far parte della Oral Engineering Group Srl… con sede a Baggiovara (Mo)… dove prese parte alla progettazione di un motore aspirato per conto della tedesca BMW così che costei potesse ritornare a partecipare al Campionato Mondiale di Formula 1. Nella fotografia visibile qui sopra... che fu scattata presso il Museo sito all'interno della sede della Lamborghini Automobili a Sant'Agata Bolognese (Bo)... Mauro Forghieri ha dinnanzi il motore aspirato Lamborghini LE3512 da lui progettato dopo che dal 1989 nel Campionato Mondiale di Formula 1 erano stati vietati i motori dotati di turbocompressore... che poi ritorneranno a partire dal 2014. Aveva una cilindrata di 3495 cm3 frazionati in 12 cilindri in configurazione a V di 80° e poteva sviluppare fino a 700 cavalli di potenza massima. Tale propulsore equipaggiò la vettura mod. 291 partecipante al Campionato Mondiale di Formula 1 del 1991... unico anno che vide il Modena Team Lambo partecipare alla massima categoria. Le due vetture… numerate 34 e 35… erano condotte rispettivamente da Nicola Larini ed Eric Van De Poele. Questo motore Lamborghini LE3512 verrà anche utilizzato in Formula 1 dalla Lotus sulle vetture Lotus 102 nel 1990, sulle Ligier JS35 nel 1991, dalla Larousse sulle vetture Venturi 92 e dalla Minardi sulle M192 nel 1992, mentre nel 1993... ma solo in test e prove libere sui circuiti di Pembrey e Silverstone in Gran Bretagna e all'Estoril in Potogallo... l'LE3512 equipaggerà una McLaren MP4/8 modificata per l'occasione e condotta dal "Magic"... Ayrton Senna da Silva... e da Mika Hakkinen. (c) lucianoserra.d
