John and David, I catch (for work) hundreds of vipers, so I know what I'm talking about. It is very likely that the viper you observed was simply fleeing along the slope (as Daniele Cavadini also rightly points out). Sometimes they do, they let themselves slide down (maybe on the grass) to escape a potential danger. To say that the viper "attacked you downhill" is tantamount to creating a stir and feeding the legends that circulate about these animals. On the other hand most of the comments I have read on these pages demonstrate what the level of misinformation is when it comes to vipers.

Splendid capture for light colors and sharpness of the subject, congratulations for the well-deserved EP and for the steady hand despite the fright.

Ok Atrox, then I agree with you, anyway she gave me a blow because she was determined and very nervous. In the end I am used to vipers because in the mountains I find them, but, never seen a behavior like the two nervous that I found
Gios, wow I hope it is nothing serious, do not worry about the passages, you are not obliged. I wish you a sea of health and beautiful things, see you soon, hello
THANK YOU friends Juzzini for the very kind passage and also for the time you have dedicated to this shot

Hello John and David.
I'm glad you've changed your opinion a bit. Vipers, like other snakes, adopt defensive strategies that often surprise us and that we interpret as aggressive behavior, while it is pure defense (for reasons of survival!). As the great herpetologist Clifford Pope said, snakes are first of all cowards (because they flee in the face of danger!), then "bluffers" (they try to impress us), and only at the end of the warriors (if there are no alternatives, it is clear that they will try to "fight" to save their lives). Then I agree with you that the individual a little "crazy" can always happen. And berus are rather nervous vipers...
Greetings!

Well done Giovanni and Davide!
If you love these animals (from your choices you would say yes) I hope that your photos and the story that accompanies them, sometimes more effective in communicating the photos themselves, contribute to knowledge, respect and conservation.
Leveraging and exacerbating fears or phobias that are the result of imagination alone do not go in this direction. Proof of this are the many comments of the visitors of this site that I read.
