Tanti anni di sacrifici. Se dovessi dare un titolo a questa foto, sarebbe questo. Ho passato decine di ore nascosto nella neve, o sotto il sole cocente delle montagne, per filmare l'aquila reale, o in un capanno tra le rocce per giorni, riuscendo a vedere l'aquila lontana e solo per pochi minuti, a volte secondi. In quel breve lasso di tempo, però, bisogna essere lucidi, bisogna sapere cosa si sta facendo; bisogna muoversi molto lentamente perché l'aquila reale si accorge di tutto quello che succede. Conosce il suo territorio a memoria e può vedere un coniglio a tre chilometri di distanza: se una pietra si muove, se ne accorge. La sua vista è così acuta che se il nostro sistema visivo fosse perfetto come quello dell'aquila, potremmo vedere una formica che cammina per terra dal decimo piano di un palazzo. La grande sfida è quella di essere accettata: l'aquila ha bisogno di sapere che tu sei lì ma che non la disturbi. Dopo ore di osservazione, nascosto nella mia capanna tra le rocce, quando avevo perso la speranza, l'aquila si è materializzata e, come un fulmine, si è posata davanti a me. Mi ha ripagato dell'enorme sforzo di tutti questi giorni, mesi e anni.
