Non volevo farla troppo lunga, spesso si diventa eccessivamente prolissi quando si racconta il dietro le quinte di un nostro scatto. Ma stavolta non posso esimermi perché ho avuto ancora una volta conferma che il caso, il fato, il destino, chiamatelo come volete, tiene le redini e detta in modo insindacabile i ritmi di noi poveri paesaggisti. Cosa voglio dire? Vivere un'esperienza unica in modo del tutto casuale, nel senso che non c'era nulla di programmato, ma proprio nulla. L'unico elemento prevedibile di tutta questa faccenda è il pizzico di ostinazione e perseveranza che spesso mi accompagnano. Ripenso alle innumerevoli uscite dedicate, zaino di 14/15 chili dietro la schiena (oltre all'attrezzatura fotografica mi porto anche altro materiale utile in escursione), programmazione minuziosa del posto, di dove andrà a cadere l'ultimo raggio di Sole, ecc. Peccato che Madre Natura se ne sbatta e di fatti nonostante i ricordi bellissimi che ogni uscita scolpisce nel mio cuore e nella mia mente i colori e la luce che volevo non riuscivo ad intercettarli da tempo. Quante volte, percorrendo i sentieri a cui sono affezionato, mi sono ripetuto "da qui se ci fossero le condizioni giuste potrei assistere a dei tramonti 'atomici'. Ci vorrebbe un tappeto di nubi lì sopra, un'apertura là sotto proprio quando il Sole è più basso". Una sorta di mantra che ciclicamente mi auto ripeto nella mente, forse anche inconsciamente, come se a furia di rievocarlo potesse in qualche modo esaudire i miei desideri fotografici. Ebbene, arriviamo a questa foto: causa cancellazione di alcuni appuntamenti di lavoro pomeridiani insieme alla borsa di lavoro mi porto anche un borsello con dentro la fotocamera e il mini treppiedi e visto che l'ultimo appuntamento ce l'avevo in uno studio sito in uno paese etneo mi viene l'idea, una volta finito, di salire sull'Etna, così senza un programma particolare. Il meteo era ballerino, ma me ne sono fregato. Una serena e gentile convinzione mi ha spinto nonostante non fosse suffragata dalla circostanza e nonostante non fossi attrezzato per una escursione. Salgo, salgo e arrivo a 1.900 circa. Giunto quasi a destinazione il ghiaccio sulla strada che dovevo imboccare mi consiglia di lasciare l'automobile più giù in uno spiazzo, quindi mi incammino per un tratto di strada asfaltata fino a quando non giungo all'ingresso di un percorso molto bello e non faticoso. Era caduta tanta neve, più di quanto pensassi e in alcuni tratti mi arrivava quasi al ginocchio; cerco di sfruttare le orme lasciate da qualcuno che c'era passato prima, ma arrivavano solo fino ad un certo punto. Decido di continuare. Non avendo le ghette la neve inevitabilmente è cominciata ad entrare dentro le scarpe, vi lascio immaginare la sensazione 'gradevole', prima quei pezzi freddi, poi il calore del piede comincia a farli sciogliere e pian piano le calze si inzuppano. Fuori 1 grado, ma quasi totale assenza di vento mentre sull'altro versante tiravano belle folate, fortunatamente lì ero riparato. Continuo il cammino e nonostante questi inconvenienti arrivo a destinazione. Il meteo, come detto, non è promettente ma so che quelle condizioni in realtà possono avere due facce ben diverse: o si copre tutto e resta così e a un certo punto non ti resta che alzare i tacchi o continua a mutare aprendo sprazzi da cui la luce può filtrare, in questo caso si possono aprire possibilità fotografiche inaspettate. Purtroppo per il tramonto ci vuole ancora un'ora e mezza, non posso andare oltre perché non sono attrezzato e ho già i piedi fradici, quindi non mi resta che aspettare nella speranza che la fortuna mi assista. Aspetto, dopo un'ora inizio ad avvertire intensamente il freddo per cui mi sono dovuto mettere a fare piegamenti sulle gambe e altri esercizi, la scena vista da fuori sarà stata un mix tra il comico e il tragico, fortunatamente non c'era anima viva al di fuori del sottoscritto. L'ultima mezz'ora ho dovuto camminare su e giù velocemente per un tratto del percorso intrapreso perché le dita dei piedi non le sentivo più. Le nubi vorticavano sopra la mia testa e tutto intorno, coprendo tutto a tratti per poi diradarsi parzialmente alla stessa velocità, poi il miracolo proprio nel momento topico. Madre Natura ha voluto premiare l'ostinazione di quel disperato che solo come un cane aspettava l'impronosticabile. E giungiamo all'epilogo di questo pippone, uno dei tramonti più belli a cui ho mai assistito per qualità della luce, condizioni metereologiche e copertura nuvolosa.
