La Pieve di Lamula si trova, immersa in un castagneto, lungo la strada provinciale che collega Arcidosso a Montelaterone, circa un km dopo aver lasciato il centro abitato di quest'ultimo. Venne costruita nel IX secolo come "filiale" dell'Abbazia di San Salvatore e divenne un importante centro religioso e amministrativo. Un documento del 14 settembre 892, ci narra di un mercato sabatino che si svolgeva nei pressi della pieve, e riscontri di tale mercato si hanno su altri due documenti del 1240 e del 1249. Nel 1264 l'edificio venne distrutto da un incendio, ma nel 1268 venne ricostruito da tale Paganuccio, come testimonia un'iscrizione sul primo pilastro del lato destro ("Nell'anno del Signore 1268 nel mese di giugno al tempo del re Carlo Paganuccio fece sì che questa opera fosse portata a termine"). Nonostante gli interventi di ristrutturazione e consolidamento effettuati nei secoli, ancora oggi sono visibili parti delle strutture in stile romanico originarie. L'interno è suddiviso in tre navate, nelle decorazioni dei capitelli riscontriamo motivi zoomorfi e cavalieri che combattono contro belve, sull'altare si trova una quattrocentesca statua lignea di Madonna con Bambino. Molto particolare una colonna sulla sinistra della navata centrale, dove una serie di pietre nere posizionate a spirale creano l'effetto di una scala. Ad aumentare il fascino di questo luogo, contribuisce la presenza di numerosi simboli legati ai cavalieri templari: il fiore della vita, simboli legati al culto delle acque, simboli del femminino sacro, serpenti e volti protomi. Infine anche una leggenda popolare circonda la Pieve di Lamula: racconti lontani nel tempo narrano infatti di una mula che si sarebbe inginocchiata davanti all'immagine sacra della Madonna, lasciando le impronte sulla pietra, impronte che tutt'oggi sono visibili in una pietra del sagrato.
