Ostuni, detta la città bianca, ha il vanto di essere una delle città più belle della Puglia grazie alle sue casette dipinte interamente di bianco. Oltre alla spettacolarità delle sue abitazioni, Ostuni è una delle mete pugliesi a poca distanza dal mare.Qual è ancora la motivazione del bianco di Ostuni? Una ragione continua ad esistere nonostante il passare dei secoli. All'incirca dal 1800, il comune di Ostuni ha emanato un'ordinanza che obbliga tutti gli abitanti a dipingere le case del centro storico di bianco. Non è un obbligo dettato dalla vanità o per destare lo stupore dei turisti nel vedere questa particolarità, ma è un semplice scopo igienico. Nello stesso anno dell'ordinanza, Ostuni fu colpita da un lungo periodo di siccità che provocò epidemie e carestie. Furono gli stessi abitanti ad avere l'idea di dipingere le loro case con la calce per evitare il contagio di ogni tipo d'infezione e malattia. Questa credenza, tra l'altro fondata, fa si che venga gettata ancora oggi la calce. Grandi pietre chiuse in sacchi vengono riposte nei pozzi della città per purificare le acque pluviali raccolte. Insomma gli antichi abitanti di Ostuni ci avevano visto lungo. La particolarità delle casette bianche del centro storico non è solo incantevole da ammirare, ma favorisce anche la salute della città e di conseguenza della moltitudine di turisti che arrivano da ogni dove. One of my gaps in Puglia (the largest is Bari), although he knows enough about that beautiful region.
The photo honors the city and is appreciated for choosing a day far from full sun.
I too could manage at the bottom eliminating those two white buildings in the foreground that I find disturb a little, as I must say that I often do also to my photos and as the 4/3 format allows easily, turning them into 16/9 ;-)
