"Like a Nativity Scene": This evening, July 17th, the sky cleared of the morning rains convinced me to try a image of the comet from a location not entirely free of light pollution, that is the town where I live, Montecassiano (MC - ITALY). After identifying it fairly easily with the naked eye and positioning the faithful Minitrack LX3 in no time, I took a series of 20 shots from 15 seconds to 200 ISO on the comet with an 85mm focal length lens closed at F / 2 on an FF SLR. In addition to these images, I took some shots with shorter times on the country to shoot it without overexposed areas, here is all recomposed with careful processing work on DSS and PSD.

yesterday I tried to quickly frame it from home with the 85 canon and it was much smaller than that... but it was also a lot higher... Does it appear bigger when it goes down? kind of an optical effect of the moon's rise?

It is not an optical effect, the comet is very extensive but if you do not have a good sky and do not operate good processing you see only the brightest part.
