Della Chiesa parrocchiale di San Giacomo a Spino d'Adda, si ignora la data ufficiale di edificazione. Si è tuttavia ipotizzato che l'antica chiesa di santa Maria del Mejo, la quale sorgeva, presso la cascina Cascinetta, fosse in tempi passati la primitiva chiesa parrocchiale di Spino. Della chiesa attuale si hanno notizie certe a partire dal 1582, dove è descritta con il tetto cascante e si intimava di costruire una sacrestia ed una muraglia attorno al sagrato. La chiesa era retta da un arciprete e di possesso della famiglia Landriani. Un documento del 1685 descrive tre altari: quello maggiore, l'altare della Beata Vergine del Rosario e quello di san Glicerio, arcivescovo di Milano. Viene descritta anche la facciata, in marmo con capitello e colonne di granito, santi evangelisti in terracotta, tre porte d'accesso di cui una, quella centrale, sovrastata dal dipinto di san Giacomo apostolo. Il 16 marzo 1697 l'arciprete don Antonio Jonaro faceva richiesta per costruire la cantoria e l'organo, che era assente nella chiesa. Il 21 marzo successivo una delegazione vescovile ne dava il consenso. Gli atti della visita pastorale di monsignor Giuseppe Gallarati, del 1645, che descrivono nei minimi dettagli la Chiesa, riportano la presenza di due sepolcri, di cui uno della famiglia Landriani. Nel 1769 si chiede di poter allargare il presbiterio, rinnovando le balaustre, anche con lo scopo di aprire una porta verso la sacrestia. Alla fine del secolo si chiede demolire l'altare maggiore in legno per sostituirlo con uno in marmo. Un atto del 1868 riporta la presenza, sulla facciata, di un pronao esterno formato da colonne di granito con basi e capitelli simili a lesene corrispondenti di otto, volte a vela, archi in cotto e tetto di tegole. A partire dal 1889 si iniziava a parlare di ristrutturazione da eseguirsi in diversi tempi: a tal fine il nobile Alessandro Zineroni Casati versava una somma per la ristrutturazione. Dieci anni più tardi partiva il progetto di ampliamento poiché la dimensione della chiesa era ritenuta insufficiente rispetto la popolazione. I lavori ebbero principio a partire nel 1900 e la chiesa veniva prolungata assimendo l'aspetto attuale, in stile gotico-romanico.
