Firenze, Piazza di Santa Trinita ... dicembre 2018 ... Unitamente alla via de' Tornabuoni che l'attraversa fino al ponte omonimo, quella di Santa Trinita è forse, a mio umile giudizio, la più solenne ed elegante tra le piazze fiorentine, e non soltanto per la presenza a volte pure ingombrante di negozi e sedi delle più titolate maison di moda internazionali. Affiancati l'un l'altro, come in una sorta di campionario di architettura cittadina, nobili e severi palazzi trecenteschi e rinascimentali prospettano sullo spazio centrale della piazza, dove sorge la poderosa Colonna della Giustizia, struttura in granito proveniente dalle terme di Caracalla. Due curiosità, con l'ausilio della sempre utilissima wikipedia: la prima, a beneficio dei non fiorentini, è la pronuncia sdrucciola del toponimo trinità per cui si dice Santa Trinita e non Santa Trinità; la seconda, pure a me ignota, riguarda le ataviche faziosità dei miei concittadini poichè proprio in questa piazza, il primo di maggio del 1300, giorno di Calendimaggio, scoppio la baruffa tra Cerchi e Donati, di fatto il casus belli per la guerra civile tra guelfi bianchi e guelfi neri ...
