Castelbuono è inserito in un territorio dalle origini molto antiche, quello della valle delle Madonie, frequentato sin dal neolitico. Le prime notizie storiche risalgono al periodo medievale quando il borgo passò sotto la giurisdizione del monastero benedettino di Lipari. Nel 1316 il conte Francesco di Ventimiglia fece costruire il castello su un antico sito bizantino intorno al quale si sviluppò il centro abitato. Da quel momento, la famiglia Ventimiglia decise di trasferirsi a Castelbuono ma, alla fine del 1500, la popolazione locale fu quasi del tutto sterminata da due terribili epidemie. La corte decise di diventare una sorta di residenza d'artisti di notevole pregio, tra cui Torquato tasso, che contribuirono all'accrescimento artistico e urbanistico. Oggi, Castelbuono si presenta come un bellissimo borgo valorizzato dal cuore dei suoi abitanti. Ci si sente accolti come se ti conoscessero da sempre.
