I've done these sort of live music locally for local press and websites and know how the light levels change so much and erratically.

Because my 70-200mm wasn't as good as yours is, nor my DSLR's, I'd stick to f3.2 or f3.5 and a maximum of iso 3200, which would allow handholdable speeds throughout the zoom range (mine does not have stabilisation). Often I'd switch to manual exposure, pre-setting where the best lighting was anticipated and so the camera is not fooled by changing light sources and beams etc. You do waste shots, of course, but the nature is such with such a genre.

My main point was that most live music photographers strive to shoot with a professional 70-200mm f2.8 and shooting at f6.3, where a much cheaper, lesser lens could have the job, is a bit of a waste of the lens' potential.

It is a difficult genre to master and in the heat of the occasion we usually do become less aware of the technical side, but here, maybe more than any other field, can make so much difference. However, I believe your D750 can handle the high iso's and therefore lessen the compromises that poorer photographers like me still have to endure.
