Scatto eseguito con scarsa luce e senza l'ausilio di cavalletto (vietato). All'interno del Battistero di S.Giovanni nel duomo di Siena, in posizione centrale, si staglia il Fonte Battesimale, straordinaria opera in marmo, bronzo e smalto realizzata tra il 1417 e il 1431 dai maggiori scultori del tempo quali Giovanni di Turino, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Donatello, Jacopo della Quercia. Il Fonte è costituito da una vasca esagonale in cui si inseriscono i sei specchi in bronzo dorato raffiguranti la vita del Battista, scanditi dalle statue della virtù di cui due, Fede e Speranza, realizzate da Donatello. Fra gli episodi più rappresentativi assume un particolare rilievo il Battesimo di Gesù di Lorenzo Ghiberti del 1427, elegante e raffinata scena caratterizzata da un pittoricismo e un senso prospettico ottenuti grazie al rilievo schiacciato. Il ciclo si conclude con il celebre rilievo realizzato da Donatello nel 1427, che rappresenta il Banchetto di Erode, la scena più commovente per la drammaticità del soggetto e le qualità formali.
