La vegetazione dell'Etna è ricca, bella da osservare e molto interessante da conoscere. Un endemismo presente in aree in cui si penserebbe non possa crescere nulla (come questo fianco ripido di un cono vulcanico) è composto da un agglomerato di più piante che di solito assume la forma di cuscini, detti "pulvini". Dei veri e propri 'condomini' vegetali. La forma non è casuale, ma adatta a vincere i venti, il freddo e la neve di quelle altitudini e per meglio aderire con le loro radici corte e robuste al pugno di terra che si ammonticchia sopra la pietra lavica. Le principali piante che lo compongono sono l'Astragalo spinoso e la Saponaria i cui fiori di colore vivido creano una stupenda composizione che si staglia nettamente sullo scuro suolo vulcanico.
