Notevole il portale d'ingresso, risalente presumibilmente agli inizi del XVI secolo, scolpito in rilievo con le figure dei Quattro Santi (san Roberto, sant'Alberico, santo Stefano, san Bernardo) e sormontato dallo I battenti in legno, forse del XIV secolo, portano nei riquadri quattro Santi scolpiti a marcato rilievo. In alto, nella lunetta, è intagliata la cicogna, che stringe nel becco il pastorale, insegna assunta dagli abati nel secolo XV. Le cicogne sono state una presenza consueta nei primi secoli di vita di Chiaravalle, e pare vi siano rimaste fino alla pestilenza del 1574. Ai lati della porta maggiore furono aperte, durante il rifacimento della facciata eseguito nel 1625 per opera dell'Abate Ottaviano da Faruffini, due pote di eguale misura, retangolari e coronate da un frontone triangolare. Vicino si nota un'apertura, chiusa, che potrebbe denunciare l'esistenza di porte precedenti assai più antiche. Commenti, consigli e critiche sempre super graditi. Grazie.
