La cupola della Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II si trova a un'altezza di 47 metri ed ha un diametro di 39 metri. Sia la cupola sia la copertura dei bracci sono fatte di vetro e ferro di provenienza francese. Al momento della costruzione non vi erano, in Europa, altre costruzioni vetrate di tale dimensione e forma, nemmeno a Londra e Parigi. Si trattò, quindi, dal primo impianto di vetro a forma di croce e con cupola. Le semi-lunette Degnissime di nota, le semi-lunette (dimensioni: 15 m di lunghezza e 7 m di altezza) presenti nella Galleria di Milano hanno ciascuna un proprio significato e sono state dipinte da artisti differenti. I motivi contenuti nelle semi-lunette poste ai lati della cupola raffigurano allegoricamente l'Asia, l'Europa, l'Africa e l'America. Le semi-lunette presenti alle estremità dei due bracci corti della Galleria di Milano contengono ciascuna due dipinti allegorici su pannelli di tela. I dipinti rappresentano quattro attività umane: arte, industria, agricoltura, scienza. Inizialmente nelle semi-lunette c'erano solo gli affreschi, in seguito (1921) questi sono stati coperti da mosaici che ne riproducono fedelmente il motivo allegorico. Gli artisti che hanno realizzato questi affreschi allegorici sono: Raffaele Casnedi (America, Arte), Angelo Pietrasanta (Europa, Scienza), Eleuterio Pagliaro (Africa, Agricoltura), Bartolomeo Giuliano (Asia, Industria). Ultima curiosità la Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II costò all'epoca 30 milioni di lire, pari a 90 milioni di euro aggiornati al 2003. Critiche, commenti e consigli sempre super graditi. Grazie.
