Siccome nella macro classica lo sfondo si annega spesso nello sfuocato e in quella ambientata invece ricompare in tutto il suo contenuto, non si può usare la stessa tecnica della macro classica. Lo sfondo va collegato in quale modo al primo piano.
Ad esempio, se in questa foto lo stelo fosse connesso al terreno , i due piani (primo e secondo) sarebbero percettivamente connessi. In questa configurazione potrebbero anche avere due illuminazioni e nitidezza diverse perchè il sistema visivo comunque li lega gradatamente e "naturalmente" attraverso la costruzione mentale del modello spaziale.
La novità di questo tipo di ottica è quindi anche dovuta a questo problema aggiuntivo rispetto alla macro tradizionale. Forse c'era anche in quella tradizionale, ma qui è amplificato.
