#Ville "E' tua questa casa?" mi ha chiesto candidamente la bimba della foto. Villa Beatrice d'Este - Colli Euganei - Comune di Baone (PD) Villa Beatrice d'Este sorge sul Monte Gemola, al centro delle colline euganee, sui resti di un antico monastero benedettino. Da qui è possibile godere di uno spettacolare panorama sui monti circostanti e sulla pianura, fino ai vicini Colli Berici e alle più lontane Prealpi. La villa prende il nome da una nobildonna e monaca benedettina, Beatrice I d'Este, vissuta in questo luogo dal 1221 al 1226. Figlia del marchese Azzo VI e della seconda moglie Sofia di Savoia, la giovane principessa maturò la vocazione religiosa a seguito di tragici eventi che colpirono la sua famiglia. Inizialmente osteggiata nella decisione di abbandonare la vita di corte, ella trovò rifugio presso il convento femminile di Santa Margherita, sul monte Salarola; in seguito fece restaurare un antico monastero che sorgeva sul Monte Gemola, dove fondò una nuova comunità di clausura e visse con grande fervore religioso gli ultimi anni della sua breve vita. Il monastero dedicato a San Giovanni Battista sopravvisse per oltre tre secoli e mezzo, diffondendo la fama di santità della propria fondatrice. Nel 1657 la struttura, ormai in abbandono, venne acquistata dal mercante veneziano Francesco Ruberti, che la trasformò nell'attuale villa. Nei primi anni del '900, sui resti dell'antica chiesa conventuale, è stata costruita una barchessa per assolvere le principali funzioni agricole. Dal 1972 l'intero complesso è divenuto proprietà della Provincia di Padova, che negli anni Settanta e Ottanta ha promosso un accurato restauro, consentendo oggi di riconoscere all'interno degli edifici tracce del monastero medievale. Attualmente alcuni locali della villa sono destinati ad accogliere il Museo Naturalistico provinciale, nelle cui sale vengono illustrati gli aspetti vegetazionali e faunistici del territorio euganeo.
