Subjects : We are in the region of Antofagasta de la Sierra, province of Catamarca, Argentina. Near the town of El Peñón. Within the Área natural protegida Campo de Piedra Pómez, there is an ancient and gigantic flow of pumice from a neighboring volcano: volcán Blanco or Robledo. Casting has been exposed to atmospheric agents that have deeply eroded in such a way as to create channels, pinnacles and white sand dunes. A spectacular landscape that lends itself to being photographed at its best at sunset, when the shadows lengthen and pumice takes on a wonderful Golden coloraizone

Recommended equipment : Landscape photos, from wide angle to Telephoto (200 mm) pushed

Best months : Best season: from April to November, inclusive, bearing in mind that July and August can be very cold and very windy in September and October. From mid-December to March is wet period with possible thunderstorms and cloudy sky.

How to get there : To visit the site, located in the region of Antofagasta de la Sierra, in the province of Catamarca, one must reach the El Peñón (3600 masl). The town is accessible from trails that connect to Tolar Grande, through the town of Antofagasta de la Sierra, or simply along the Salta-Cafayate-> > Hualfìn (along the routa 40)-> El Peñón. From El Peñón, the site is visible in the distance.

Visits : Free admission, no tickets. Need a 4 x 4 or appropriate means. The slopes are dangerous due to the presence of soft soils (pumice powders). The paths change from year to year depending on the accumulation of such materials
