Subjects : The Bale Mountains are a mountainous mountain that rises in the heart of the region of Oromia, Ethiopia. The territory of the park stretches from mountain forests to the heights of the high plateau that culminates with the highest elevation of Mount Tulu Dimtu at 4,377m of altitude. Given the latitude, vegetation is present up to the highest altitudes while the forest boundary is around 3000 meters. The park star is definitely the Etiopian Wolf (Canis simensis), easily sighted in the high altitude heaths of Sanetti Plateau but not Is definitely the only subject of interest. Although it extends over 3800 meters, the Sanette Plateau is flourishing. The Stark hare and Giant molar rat (Tachyoryctes macrocephalus) are easily observed both endemic species. Very rich is also the birdworm, with numerous birds of prey such as the bushy bush (very common), the warthog, the kestrel, the eagle of the steppes and, more difficult to see, the gypsy. In addition, the ponds and peat bogs lying on the plateau attract numerous species of waders and endemic goose livers. There is also an isolated population of coral reef. Of great interest is also the flora, characterized by the splendid and monumental giant lobbies and the helix preteries. Excitingly, the territory of the park is covered with lush forests where you can easily photograph the mountain Nyala, a great antelope symbol of Ethiopia. But nyala is not the only species present: among the antelopes you can also see Saltarupi, Silvicapra and Menelik's bushbuck. There are numerous and always attractive and wealthy species of endemic avifuana species.

Recommended equipment : To photograph the fauna and avifauna I would say that a 200-400mm zoom would be optimal. I took it with my 300mm f / 4. Keep in mind that Sanetti Plateau is almost always over 4000m and for good photos you may also need to go on foot, so too heavy targets can be difficult to manage. If interested, it is also useful for a very interesting flora and a standard focal plane (24-70mm) for landscapes that are very special. In the forests the best is a 200-400mm zoom, always keeping in mind that it is moving Always and only on foot.

Best months : The recommended time for the weather is from October to April. June is the month of flowering, I have not been there, but to be lucky with the weather I believe offers great photographic tips.

How to get there : From Addis Ababa (international airport) to the normal Ethiopian road network, you reach the town of Dinsho where is the gate for access to the park. To climb the Sanetti Plateau there is a fairly well maintained dirt track (we traveled it with a toyota van). In case of persistent rains, I am afraid that it may create some problems. There are numerous walking trails within the park, as you can walk on foot without any problems in the Sanetti moorland, with the only care not to be surprised From the fog.

Visits : Entrance fee is charged. Moreover, you are almost obliged to be accompanied by a local guide.
