Subjects : This site is for birds.Waterfowl such as several species of ducks, moorhens, swans. Also egrets, herons and spoonbills. Raptors such as sea eagles, brahminy kites, black shouldered kites, swamp harriers and others.Various species of honeyeaters, fairy wrens, kookaburra's, silvereye's, grass birds, finches and many more. Over 200 species recorded.
Recommended equipment : DSLR and telephoto lens as many species of birds are very small. A telephoto lens of no less than 400mm is recommended. There is some bush land/forest so sometimes the light is low so a decent speed light comes in handy. Extra batteries and back up memory cards.
Best months : There is birding all year round and depending on the season can depend on the species found. Water birds, fairy wrens and various grass birds can be found throughout the year.
How to get there : The site is located half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast on the east coast of Australia. Brisbane and the Gold Coast both have international airports that service different flights from around the world. A hire car would normally be necessary to visit this spot.
Visits : This area is free and very easy to walk around. Trails are on wooden boardwalks and cleared trails. All trails are on flat areas no hills. Can be very hot in summer with high humidity so check the season for clothing requirements and sunscreen. Mosquito's in summer so remember insect repellent. There are toilet facilities near the carpark end of the main trail.
