I agree with Juza, I own the Tamron 180mm macro, I have tested it with the sigma 180mm f3.5 (discontinued for some years, replaced by the much more expensive Sigma 180mm f2.8, which I haven't ever used/tested) and Canon 180mm L.........image quality is very similar between these three lenses, in real world terms the image quality is identical......the Tamron is not particularly well built or weather proof (very plastic!).....but is extremely good value for money, the glass is good, the body is OK/adequate at best.............if I were you, I would also seriously consider the Sigma 150mm f2.8 OS........I was on a tight money budget when I purchased the Tamron 180mm, I would have purchased the 150mm if I could and I only have a full frame camera body, the Sigma 150mm will be perfect on your D200!, hope this helps?
I used Tamron to much time with my nikon d300s. It's a superb lens that gave me many satisfactions. I sold it because i'm passed to Micro Four Third. If you want see some my photos with Tamron click here www.matteoluciani.com/macro-and-flora.html. I hope to help you. Regards
