Problema con sistema VR Zoom Nikkor

Salve a tutti,
ho acquistato (usato) un obiettivo AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200 f3.5-5.6G ED VR II che ho montato sulla mia Nikon D5300 ed ho notato un comportamento dello stesso che mi lascia alquanto perplesso.

Sin dal primo momento, in alcuni momenti l'immagine nel mirino vibra notevolmente per alcuni istanti prima di stabilizzarsi. Il fenomeno è accompagnato da una sensibile vibrazione di tutto il corpo macchina e da un rumore tipo "trr trr...". Ciò accade quasi sempre in fase di messa a fuoco (quindi alla pressione parziale del pulsante di scatto) ma a volte anche a fotocamera "ferma".

In un primo momento ho pensato che potesse essere il sistema di riduzione delle vibrazioni dell'obiettivo (non ne avevo mai avuto uno con questa caratteristica prima d'ora) per cui ho dapprima spostato il selettore da "Active" a "Normal" e poi addirittura a spegnere del tutto il sistema (VR OFF) ma sempre senza alcun risultato: l'immagine nel mirino vibra come sopra descritto in qualunque configurazione!

Il fenomeno è sinceramente molto fastidioso, specie per me che uso la fotocamera per riprendere immagini sportive, che dunque richiedono una inquadratura ed una messa a fuoco da eseguire in tempi rapidi, laddove invece la vibrazione mi fa perdere tempo prezioso.
C'è qualche malfunzionamento dell'obbietivo? Devo modificare qualcosa nelle impostazioni della fotocamera?

Il problema potrebbe essere l'autofocus, il motorino o un elicoide.
Non so se il 18-200 ha la possibilità di disattivare l'Af, se si, prova a disattivarlo e inserire il VR focheggiando manualmente, se le vibrazioni scompaiono è quello.

Se con VR off il problema si ripresenta, va ricercato nel sistema AF. Come suggerito da Frarossi, disattiva AF con lo switch sul barilotto, e focheggia a mano.

È un malfunzionamento dell' obiettivo, mia moglie usa il 18-200 sulla D5300 e non ha quel comportamento. Se sei ancora in tempo restituiscilo
