Utilità delle "photo cages"

Mi scuso se scrivo nella rubrica dedicata alle teste ed ai treppiedi, anche se l'argomento è solo in parte pertinente.
L'impiego, sempre più diffuso, delle DSLR e delle mirrorless per riprese video ha stimolato lo sviluppo di nuovi accessori ed uno di questi consiste nelle cosiddette "gabbie fotografiche", studiate per poter montare un'infinità di accessori (microfono, monitor, illuminatori, ecc.) su, o sarebbe meglio dire intorno, alla fotocamera video. Queste gabbie, inoltre, proteggono efficacemente il corpo macchina da colpi o imprevisti e possono essere collegate ad un apparato "follow focus", usato durante le riprese video. Molte sono munite di impugnature per stabilizzare la macchina durante le riprese.
Io non sono interessato alle riprese video, però mi sono sorpreso a pensare che alcune di queste gabbie (le più semplici) potrebbero essere anche usate per certi tipi di fotografia, proteggendo la macchina e consentendo una più agevole rimozione/installazione sulla testa del treppiede, Anche la facilità di montarci su accessori (flash o illuminatori macro, braccetti di sostegno, plamp, ecc.) non sarebbe da disprezzare.
Qualcuno ci ha già provato e sarebbe così gentile da condividere la sua esperienza?
