Consiglio flash per Canon 100d

Buonasera a tutti,
dopo il recente acquisto del Canon 85mm 1.8 (grazie ai vostri consigli) ero intenzionato ad acquistare un flash esterno per la mia 100D.
Premesso che sono un neofita e che l'unico flash che ho mai utilizzato è quello integrato nella fotocamera, quale modello mi consigliereste?
Non ho esigenze particolari ed ho un pò la fissa di restare in casa Canon, ma se ci sono valide alternative ben vengano.
Io ho curiosato un pò in giro (ad esempio c'è il nuovo 430), ma non vorrei che fosse "troppo" per uno alle prime armi come il sottoscritto...
Sostanzialmente vorrei un alternativa al flash integrato che fosse più potente ed orientabile e, se ho capito bene, che consenta di mettere a fuoco tramite infrarossi come il 430 senza utilizzare la "raffica" di flash che ottengo adesso con l'integrato, con il risultato di accecare il soggetto della foto!
