Hi everybody,

I am looking for a wide angle lens for my Nikon D810 for landscapes .

I am not considering Nikon 14-24 mm f/2.8 for budget reasons, so my options are 2 Sigma and 1 Nikon:
- Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 II DG HSM
- Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art
- Nikon AF-S 20mm f/1.8 G ED

I love prime lenses and I own a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art that is a fantastic lens in terms of sharpness and bookeh (my personal opinion).

Considering quality and focal length, which can be the best option? Any other idea?

Thanks!!

Hi there;

Check out the Nikkor 16-35mm f4 VR, very versatile lens. I've recently bought the D810/16-35mm combo and really liking it's qualities.

I have an old Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8, a fast pro all metal lens of fantastic quality, if you stop it down to f4. If I were buying new, like Peter above, I'd also get the 16-35mm f4, a modern design, with VR and wider, but still with the ability to mount front filters, so essential for landscapes, which the 14-24mm and 12-24 and Tamron 15-30mm f2.8 (another well thought of alternative) cannot accept.

Which wide angle prime lens would youse D810 shooters choose? Something like the 20mm/24mm/28mm focal length.

Any views/advice/experience appreciated. Any images would be fantastic to see also, thank you.

Hi Acassandro!

Like you I was looking for a wide lens ( my camera is the Nikon D4 and D700 ) and was going for the best in the market being the Legendary Nikon 1-24mm... BUT someone has made one BETTER than the Nikon and that is the
Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC ( vibration reduction) all the pro photographers are saying that the Tamron 15-30mm is much better than the Nikon....And I've seen photos here on this site of waterfalls HANDHELD at 1/8th sec super sharp!

I had in the past the Tokina 11-16mm a very nice lens and well made!

I bought the Tamron 15-30mm 2.8 VC arriving tomorrow here in Australia.

Check on you tube The Angry Photographer reviews on the Tamron 15-30mm he used to almost worship the Nikon 14-24mm for many years and now he says that the Tamron took it's the Number One Wide Zoom Lens ever!

Oh yes and the price is nearly $800 cheaper than the Nikon.

But I'm sure that the Angry Photographer says that the Nikon 20mm 1.8 is the best wide lens prime.Worth double checking on his site on youtube.

What do you think about this topic?
