Sigma 24 mm f/1.8 vs Canon 17-40

Buonasera, avrei bisogno di qualche vostra opinione o suggerimento riguardo a un dilemma che mi affligge da qualche giorno.
Da possessore del canon 17-40 stavo pensando di sostituirlo col sigma 24 mm f/1.8. Il motivo principale sono le macro ambientate. Essendo appassionato di fotografia naturalistica e in particolare di microfauna amo moltissimo le macro ambientate e il 17-40 su questo lato è un po' scarsino anche se qualcosa si riesce a tirar fuori lo stesso. Del sigma invece ho letto che in questo genere fotografico è il migliore. Ora, premesso che ho una 7D (APS-C), secondo voi il cambio ne vale la pena? O oltre che a perdere in versatilità perderei anche in nitidezza? Oltre alle macro ambientate però spesso mi piace fare anche paesaggi e col 17-40 mi trovavo abbastanza bene, mentre se facessi il cambio mi ritroverei un 24 mm fisso che su APS-C non è poi così wide. Possiedo anche (da pochissimo), il samyang 14 mm f2.8, quindi se volessi qualcosa di più wide potrei utilizzare questo. Insomma vorrei sapere se facendo il cambio perderei di più (versatilità, nitidezza) di quello che guadagnerei (macro ambientate migliori, diaframma più ampio).
