A parte che non dici se l'obiettivo è nuovo o usato, potrebbero essere una semplice scoloritura/variazione colore della gomma, come capita a volte, ad esempio, con le guarnizioni delle portiere delle auto, muffa non mi pare proprio, parere strettamente personale.

Ma è cambio di colore/riflessione oppure cambia la rugosità?

Comunque vista così in foto potrebbe sembrare che la gomma si sia macchiata con qualche lubrificante o prodotto di pulizia.
Hai provato a detergerla delicatamente con una pezza umida?
Comunque non mi sembra niente di grave.
