35mm Negative & Film Scanners

Like many photographers, I have a large back collection of transparencies and negatives that I'd like to digitise and store - and possibly share, such as here on Juza. Good film scanners, such as Plustek 8100 seem to be beset with compatibility issues (I have an even older Plustek 7300 that is now useless due Windows driver 'issues'). These are about 300 Euro. Professional scanners can cost much much more.

Has anyone had first hand experience with using such scanners and perhaps Juza could look into including a section in the Review section for members to post reviews?

Have a look at www.hamrick.com. His software works with the plustek 8100 and nearly every scanner ever made. He has the drivers, even for windows ten.

One of the problems you'll find is that the sensor CCD's noise can clash with the film noise and create super-grain. I found with a Scanwit 2720 (about 11mp resolution) at 200 iso fuji Print film...I got worse noise than scanning 400 or 800 iso film. Slide work was better due to the lower grain. But it's something to be aware of.
The other consideration, is that it takes a long time to scan in a row of images and then colour correct and Curve correct each file. It's a slow process and what comes out of the scanner isn't very good initially.
