La nuova fotocamera sarà dotata di un nuovissimo sensore di immagine, insieme a un nuovo motore di imaging e unità acceleratore, con una risoluzione di 25,73 MP, un leggero aumento rispetto alla solita risoluzione di 24 MP che è familiare alla linea APS-C di Pentax.

Oltre al titolo ISO100 a 1,6 milioni di prestazioni, le specifiche della Pentax K-3 Mark III includono anche Shake Reduction II (SRII) migliorato visto in fotocamere come la Pentax K-1 Mark II full frame, il sistema a cinque assi che è Classificazione CIPA per cinque fermate di correzione del movimento.
