Non so quale sia il tuo budget, se puoi arrivare a 300 euro visto che le tue intenzioni erano rivolte verso un tutto fare comodo perchè no un 16-85 nikon ? quei due millimetri in più fanno molto e poi rispetto al 18-55 l'upgrade qualitativo sarà sicuramente interessante.
Io su canon avevo il 15-85 che ho dovuto dismettere per vari problemi costruttivi e tutt'ora quando sono in viaggio o devo fare foto al volo lo rimpiango perchè tra una cosa e l'altra quel range di focali ti permette di fare più o meno tutto.
Altrimenti se non è un problema mettersi a contare i pixel (come è giusto che sia quando inizi e ti devi divertire nel tuo hobby) sicuro anche il 17-70 sigma è interessante, vero che è 2.8-4, ma se per te è importante la comodità non ci sono lenti migliori.
Devi vedere tu se puntare più ad una lente luminosa come un classico 35 o 50 fisso o prendere una lente tuttofare buona, ricorda che le due cose possono tranquillamente coesistere.

Con Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HMS Art fai 2 in 1, uno zoom con l'apertura di un fisso. Su APS-C ha molto senso.
