Opinion: A lens that fascinates and conquers from the first use. Before it I bought the 40mm f/2 and after seeing the results, I immediately ordered the tele. The 85 mm f/2 is made of solid materials, which give a pleasant feeling of robustness and reliability to the touch. The lens allows you to create well-contrasted images, with bright colors and well balanced. I have no difficulty in considering it as one of my definitive lenses.

Opinion: Taken at a price used to replace the Sony 85 1.8 FE, which however is a slow lady, considered cost and size. Here we are more or less on the same size and weight, with in addition the stabilization and blurred/colors from Zeiss. Pure portraitist, without reaching the perfection of the Gmaster 1.4 (which has its flaws), perfect as long as there is light, then the AF barella and not a little. I love the OLED screen with the hyperfocal calculated in real time, which never hurts. The hood is aesthetically beautiful but uncomfortable to mount and to keep grafted on the contrary, which is no small thing. Do I recommend it instead of Sony? Undoubtedly! Waiting to see how the 85 1.2 Gmaster will be and hoping that they put their hand back to the 1.4 because the AF engine of that lens is a joke

Pros: Good construction, attractive and original design, good colors, weight, af.

Cons: Stabilizer, high cost compared to quality.

Opinion: I used this lens for 3 years and although of "blue blood" it never convinced me to the end. Meanwhile, the stabilizer did not work well with my stabilized bodies, strangely a micro-shake was often generated when it was active (maybe my failed specimen??), and unfortunately, not having a dedicated button on the lens I had to deactivate also that of the sensor from the menu to be quiet, but I had taken it just to have the double stabilization body / lens!!!. LIGHTNING FAST AND ALMOST INFALLIBLE AF, even with little light, very quiet. The rendering of the lens drops dramatically when working in low light conditions, while it is sharp and bright in good lighting. I switched to sigma 85 dg DN, monstrous, and sold it without regret, a lens to which I gave 7 but I was good.

Opinion: I have been using the Sony 85mm f1.8 (on A7rIII) for almost a year now. A very valid lens that I find a little soft in TA. I wanted to replace it with the Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8. In the store I tried the AF eye of this lens, f1.8, normal interior lighting, but the AF eye was very difficult at distances of 4/5 meters, while hooking normally and kept tracking at shorter distances. I thought it was due to the light of the interior, and I mounted the Sony 85mm 1.8. Well, the latter, always at f1.8 immediately hooked the eye at any distance. The shopkeeper could only agree with me. I came home with my Sony.
