Opinion: I state that I use this lens for freehand focus stacking combined with a Sony A7RIII, on small subjects, usually insects. The lens has a great price (often discounted), it is compact and made entirely of metal, except for the lens hood. The focus ring is precise and smooth. APO lens that totally eliminates chromatic aberrations. Always sharp even at magnifications of 2:1. The background it generates on close-up subjects is always nice and creamy. From time to time I also combine a NiSi close-up lens to increase the reproduction ratio, the sharpness still remains at very good levels. In my opinion there are only two negative points: the aperture ring, which for photographic use is a bit too fluid and sometimes you risk changing aperture without realizing it (I would have preferred more "hard" clicks), and the flare which unfortunately is always present in a very marked way with a drastic drop in contrast as soon as you meet intense light sources, problem that can be solved by mounting the included lens hood if you don't do 2:1 macro and don't use flash because at that point it could touch the subject or create shadow. I point out that the bayonet is not equipped with any type of chip for communication between lens and camera so in the information of the images taken you will not find data on the aperture used, the focal length and the lens used. In conclusion, it is an excellent macro lens for FF that reaches 2:1 (without the need for various adjustments), always sharp and with the only precaution of paying attention to intense light sources that in any case in the macro field are generally to be avoided. Opinion: I add two notes given the absence of other contributions. The lens is the update of the Laowa 100mm F2.8 APO 2:1 Macro, released in 2019 for DSLR and then adapted for ML while maintaining the original focal length. This "90" therefore represents the engineering of that project for the growing ML market that maintains the optical heart but makes some interesting changes: reduction of size, lengthening and optimization of the focus travel and affixing of a removable neutral lens at the head of the lens (On the "100" it was a removable filter). Everything else remains unchanged: it is a "true" APO therefore cancellation of the aberration; excellent tonal rendering of colors; 2:1 macro ratio which is remarkable (provided that you are aware of the difficulties that arise as you go beyond 1:1 as for all other macro pushes); Pleasant to the touch and to use, the new focus ring has an optimal excursus and no longer restricted like its "100" cousin. Of course, we are talking about optics without electronics, which is pleonastic for a macro lens. If we really have to find a flaw, the lens hood is a bit "plastic", with a roughly knurled interior (forget the Zeiss "velvety sandblasting"): however, we are talking about optics on the market at € 550 and therefore it is a venial defect (especially since "once" the lens hoods were the terrain of optional and therefore dear grace...). Extremely competitive selling price, as mentioned, to be grabbed without doubts on the used (quite flourishing as always in the Macro pushed that involve several regrets :-) )
