Pros: Smoothness, sharpness, color neutrality

Cons: maybe the TAMRON quality control because the AF is a clear design choice

Opinion: Feeling: lens of the digital age, you already know, and for this reason sharp and perhaps a little anonymous in the rendering but no problem on the contrary, it leaves a certain margin of customization in post. We already know that auto-focus is what it is, but it couldn't be otherwise on a similar body and costing 200 euros. If anything, the praise for its real usability goes to the designers who have guaranteed a cost/performance balance to the clear advantage of the latter. In short, it is clear what you buy a similar lens for and I must say that in AF-C on SONY A7 IV it did not have the same responsiveness as a native Sony, such as the 40mm f2.5 or the 24-105 f.4, but it did not miss a shot either. On the other hand, it is likely that from one specimen to another there may be a certain difference in AF performance in low light (this happened to me with a friend's 35). It is also true that it seems to have a toy in your hand because of the low weight, but then when you hold it on for a whole day, your hands and back thank you. Ultimately, a working tool with which one is forced to abandon one's fetishism for the object (I confess that I also struggle a certain amount because the eye also wants its part) but which knows how to repay in terms of quality with the right compromises, never invasive. I want to close with two adjectives: HONEST and DIGNIFIED but I would be unfair because it knows how to go further. For me it's 9.5 full. I wouldn't use it for video but maybe it's superfluous to mention it.

Pros: Image quality, weight/size, tropicalization

Cons: MAF (read below)

Opinion: Therefore, before expressing myself I must remember the price of this contained perspective and what I write will be all to be interpreted in relation to this. Now I can get started. Let's start with the image quality: spectacular. Color rendering in line with that of all Tamron lenses but, guys, the sharpness is magnificent. I did not perceive aberrations and the distortion is minimal. It seems to me to have an excellent resistance to flare, but here I could not say for sure since I always have the hood mounted. It's light, but it gave me a nice sense of solidity. Fluid bezel, although I don't really like the focus by wire (ie electronic and not mechanical). Now, the MAF, let's talk about it: it is quite noisy, but in terms of speed, it will not be a splinter is true, but objectively it is faster than the various comments and reviews appear and I was incredibly surprised (also tried with Megadap ETZ21 on Nikon Z6 and Z6II, it goes great). Net of everything, with little you bring home a fun lens, with a high level image quality, a tropicalized body and a MAF fast enough to do almost everything, so I would strongly recommend it.

Pros: Sharpness, construction, tropicalized, hood, unparalleled price quality, color rendering, weight, absence of aberrations and excellent resistance to flare, distorts almost nothing.

Cons: Af noisy and slow (but not too much) even if it improves a lot with the firmware version 3 ..list other features related to the low price is useless.

Opinion: I state that I have tried and used another 35 2.8 including the samyang and the Zeiss (which costs almost triple) and I can say that for a little less or a little more than 200 euros (depending on the period and the offer) you take home a lens "beautiful to see" with a nice diameter filters ... Lightweight... bright enough to have excellent blurred and take night photos, especially if you have cameras like the a7III / a7c or the a7IV. A lens that does not suffer in particular from anything neither in backlight nor at the level of chromatic aberrations. Very sharp on the whole frame already at full aperture but from f4 onwards it becomes almost incredible for a lens of this price range. Compared to samyang we are on another planet.... compared to the zeiss.... perhaps a less particular rendering of the colors that are still good and quite neutral (which for me is an advantage) and obviously size and AF play in favor of the Zeiss .... but is it worth all the price difference? I would say no.... maybe the "zeiss" badge actually makes a scene but the photos speak. Brava tamron... you are doing great things for Sony and I say this as a former owner of the 24 (excellent too). I just don't understand why they created this strange trio 20-24-35 and not a 50.....

Pros: sharpness, lightness, colors, reliability, ac correction, cost, modern rendering

Cons: focus by wire and therefore AF, larger footprint than competitors, modern rendering

Opinion: I have been using this tamron with satisfaction for three weeks, alongside the older brother tamron 35 SP 1.8 in sony A frame with adapter. It is clearly a modern setting lens, for my needs very sharp from edge to edge even at full aperture; it has a very high microcontrast that on the one hand facilitates sharpness, on the other it slightly compresses the tonal passages compared to a classic lens. However, it has a pleasant yield, with clean and natural colors, better than the samyang counterpart that you resell for this reason, and it is reliable. It is also a very correct lens both from the point of view of distortion and chromatic aberration, it has no other obvious optical defects and holds the backlight very well. The flaws: first of all the electronic focusing, to which I just can not get used to and which in any case slows down the operations, in the sense that if I slightly change the frame the autofocus, which is also fast, before stopping it returns to the starting point making me lose that tenth of a second. Another defect, very bearable, is the footprint that is very different from the 35mm zeiss and samyang, which are almost pancakes. The construction is of light materials but well finished and seemingly solid. The semi-macro capabilities make it suitable for creative close-ups. Comparisons: compared to the tamron 35 1.8 sp clutters and weighs a third, it is just as sharp, has a few shades less and has much, much less chromatic aberration. Compared to the samyang 35 2.8 it is slightly sharper, built better, more comfortable in use and does not suffer from yellowish-magenta cast color; it is built better and is much bulkier. Compared to the zeiss 35 2.8 costs a third, has a more or less equivalent sharpness, has more microcontrast and less general contrast, for a less characterized yield, is built worse and is much more bulky. Compared to the voigtlander 40 1.4 it does not have the same completeness in tonal restitution and has much more microcontrast.

Pros: Sharpness, flare resistance, macro capacity, weight, tropicalization, cost

Cons: MAF speed, footprint for a 2.8 iris lens

Opinion: I write my first impressions after a few months from the purchase of the Tamron and after trying it in different photo releases. Let's start with the cons, the MAF is quite slow, the Sony 24-105 (another lens in my possession for the Sony E system) is certainly better on the 7RII, in any case nothing dramatic). It is a fairly "large and bulky" lens in relation to focal length and diaphragm. If you are looking for the most compact lens possible to use for street-photography, the samyang/sony equivalent is definitely a better choice. That said, the optics were an incredible surprise. I've had Sigma 35A and Tamron play it in the past in terms of sharpness and micro-contrast, probably overtaking Sigma at the edges (they're impressions, I didn't make direct comparisons). Good flare resistance and control of chromatic aberrations. It is not a macro goal, however the reduced distance of MAF can be a plus in some situations. Although bulky compared to other lenses, the lens is very light with a decent construction quality and tropicalization on paper. Who do I recommend tamron to? To all those who do not need a lens with very open diaphragms, they prefer an all-round optics with excellent value for money.
