Pros: Construction, detail, bokeh, AF precision and speed, wide focal range that allows you to replace at least 3 "prime" lenses, without sacrificing quality... he's a GM, and it shows in everything.

Cons: I put it in the cons, but it could also be considered a point to his advantage. Despite the efforts to contain weight and bulk, it remains a demanding lens, but on the other hand it is a 50-150 f/2, and I must say that at the design level they have done a great job.

Opinion: I had approached this zoom with skepticism, especially because to take it, I had to give up the 50 f/1.4, the 85 f1.4 and the 135 f/1.8. To my surprise, this was the first time I didn't regret replacing "prime" lenses with a zoom. Ideal for all genres of photography, especially for those involved in ceremony photography and studio photography. Obviously the price is high, but considering that it easily replaces almost an entire fleet of portrait lenses, then it can be said that it is a fair compromise. Pros and cons you can read them in the two sections, for the rest I recommend it without any hesitation or perplexity.

Pros: Engraving and opening

Cons: Long distance between monopod and zoom mount

Opinion: I took this perspective to shoot fashion shows and I must say that it pleasantly surprised me. Lightweight and compact, it ensures that the job is done well. The real extraordinary thing is its aperture at f2. This is its main strength. Having such a wide aperture on a zoom allows you to shoot in low light conditions (such as weddings, indoor events or concerts) without having to raise the ISO excessively. It also allows you to achieve exceptional separation of the subject from the background, creating a soft and creamy "bokeh" (blurred).

Pros: 50-150 f2

Cons: big and heavy but you knew

Opinion: I wanted to take the whim of trying this new sony 50/150 f2 and I must say that as far as performance and quality are concerned, it meets all expectations, a bit heavy and bulky but allows you to always be ready for anything, obviously in combination with a wide angle. The only drawback in my view is that it lacks a bit of character, personality but it is my personal impression. I prefer the 70/200 II f2.8 even if I found a darker stop better from this point of view. If anyone is interested I have already put it on the market. Vote 9

Pros: Constant f/2.0 aperture, Excellent sharpness throughout the focal range, Creamy and natural bokeh, Fast, precise and quiet autofocus, Robust and tropicalized construction, Excellent control of chromatic aberrations and distortions

Cons: Important weight and size, High price, non-traditional focal range (requires a bit of adaptation for those who are used to the classic 70-200mm), Absence of optical stabilization (entrusted to the camera sensor) and not compatible with teleconverters. If someone uses filters, they risk paying as much as the optics themselves given the required diameter.

Opinion: The Sony FE 50-150mm f/2.0 GM is a lens that breaks the mold and is aimed at professional photographers looking for top-of-the-line optical performance, particularly for portrait, events, and weddings. The constant f/2.0 aperture throughout the focal length offers superior creative control: the blur is soft, three-dimensional and immersive, while the ability to separate the subject from the background is excellent even in difficult lighting conditions. The autofocus is responsive and accurate even with moving subjects, supported by the advanced tracking technology of the latest Sony mirrorless cameras (I use it on the A9III). The build quality is in line with the GM series: solid, professional and ready to face even shooting in complex weather conditions. However, it must be said that the weight is felt during long sessions and that the unusual focal range can initially be unsettling for those who are used to 70-200mm standards. In addition, the price places it in a premium range, but justified by the performance it offers. In summary, it is a lens that enhances creativity, designed for those who want to stand out and achieve results of the highest level in every situation. It's not for everyone, but those who choose it know exactly what they want: quality without compromise. Or versatility, like me, who decided to sell 50 1.2 GM, 35 1.4 GM, 85 1.4 GMII to stay with this zoom. Now I find myself with two A9IIIs, the 28-70 f2 and the 50-150 f2: without going crazy carrying a thousand lenses and changing constantly, often losing many shots, I have a very high level of equipment in two lenses. Always desired, finally possible even on full frame.

Pros: Optical quality and magical detachment of the subject, relatively light

Cons: Shameful tripod bracket The positioning and direction of rotations of the zoom ring did not entirely convince me 105 filters, uncomfortable and very expensive

Opinion: Another "small/big" masterpiece from Sony. now yet another alas.. Although the dimensions are not too small, in reality the balance on the camera is perfect and the weight is felt much less than the declared figure, also thanks to the lightness of professional Sony bodies. From the point of view of construction / ergonomics perhaps we could have done a little more .. personal tastes... such as the zoom ring that turns backwards compared to Canon and is positioned "in no man's land", sometimes you have to hold and turn the focus ring .. if it were up to me I would have reversed them. Then the absence of the filter holder drawer that is felt, as to buy a valid polarizer you have to spend an amount of about 300 euros and in any case the generous diameter of 105mm makes everything uncomfortable and difficult. But the biggest and most unbearable defect (which unfortunately now affects all brands) is the bracket for the tripod tiny, angular, uncomfortable and elusive. at least if there had been a removable ring you could have saved what could be saved, while so, even removed, it remains an annoying spruncone ... I am addressing all manufacturers: do you want to understand once and for all that the bracket is an important tool that must be of convenience for the grip and transport of the lens !!!! actually you know maybe .... Why do you put the brackets on 15k superteles nicely, comfortably and generously..... You are all stingy (Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fuji Sigma, OMSystem, Panasonic, etc etc ...) Closed the parenthesis with the less positive aspects, I can only praise the optical qualities of this 50-150, which is very sharp at all focal lengths from the center to the edges already at full aperture and offers an important detachment of the subject by highlighting it from the background, which is very pleasant / magical. An autofocus that, of course, always hits the lens even in low light. The 50-150 F2 is an instrument, given its price and that of the body, "exclusively" working... It is suitable for portraying ... whether it is a person, an animal or an object .. In this regard, I laugh when I hear someone complaining about the non-multiplication; ) is very strange ... I have never heard anyone complain about not being able to multiply the Plena 135 ... or the 85 GM .. or the 50 1.2 ... In my house, a portrait lens was born to be used smooth to express all its magic. In reality, its biggest flaw is not being able to mount it on my R1 ..... ; ) understood Canon ?
