Pros: Blurred, detachment of planes, sharpness and contrast, weight, general bulk.

Cons: It doesn't excel with TCs, especially with the 2x it loses a lot, but it's much better if it closes down already at f/8 which becomes excellent.

Opinion: He is the latest arrival in the house after the 300 GM and the 600 GM. To travel and do birdlife and wildlife (unless you make a specific trip) it is the one I chose because of the fact that I can get to 800mm with the 2x and 560 with the 1.4. Compared to the 600 it is much shorter but the weight is a little lighter but not by much. The fact is that it fits perfectly in a backpack including the attached camera, while with the 600mm f4 things get quite complicated. The 300mm GM is the most transportable and the one that holds the TCs better, followed by the 600 and finally the 400 which unfortunately does not excel compared to the Canon and Nikon with teleconverters. You have to close it down a bit, let's say at f/8 it's fine, it's usable at f/5.6 at 800mm but you have to work on it a bit in post. The 300 on paper would be the one that offers the best in terms of transport and lightness and performance. But you're always short. A 600mm fine. An alternative is to carry the 200-600 with the 300 or the 400-800, but it is still a matter of carrying 2 lenses. With the 400 f/2.8 you are covered more or less on everything. These are obviously opinions related to my use.

Pros: Scary full aperture sharpness, autofocus, 1.4x multiplier yield

Cons: As with all brands, the cost is the cost, even if we know that quality is paid.

Opinion: Good morning, after about two months of use in the field, I can review this perspective with some objectivity. You will tell me that there are not many to make a review, I am myself the first to criticize those who make reviews even with just a day of use, and maybe even from the garden of the house. For my part, I am aware of having used it, on the same subjects and places, and with the same camera body that I have for almost 2 years. And at the same time 90% of my photographs in recent years are mainly of birdlife. So my review is based solely and exclusively on this field. As a reference point, given that the optical park of Sony super telephoto with E-Mount mount is almost nil, I chose the excellent Sony 200/600 that in terms of performance and sharpness is already at the top, and also because 90% of Sony users use this lens for birdlife. So I hope to be of help to all future owners. Logically, since we are talking about two totally different lenses, light weight and zoom comfort are not mentioned in this comparison. To make it clear how crazy this lens is, just say that with the multiplication 1.4x, autofocus and sharpness are higher than the smooth 200/600!. Who reads my statement will say, and hell 10000 euros of logical difference that it is better ... , but only those who have Sony can know how much is already at the top the 200/600. Owners of the Sony a1 and 200/600, will be able to confirm that increasing the speed of tracking the autofocus to the maximum (value 5) instead of having an improvement, has the opposite effect. If you are lucky enough to be able to try this 400, with a Sony A1 you will be amazed to see how accurately autofocus moves at speed 5. To give an example, once even a small dragonfly is hooked, if you have the ability to keep it framed as far as possible it does not lose it, and autofocus moves from one side of the sensor to the other without equal. Using it smoothly the thing that amazed me is the sharpness of the file at full opening. We are at a crazy level, there is no need to close (except to have more depth of field). Weight blurred silence and cost, is in line with all the latest new generation lenses of any brand. So it is useless to spend more words.

Pros: Weight, sharpness

Cons: nobody

Opinion: Spectacular lens, with Sony A1 and A9ii really from the best of itself. The sharpness and speed of focus are really impressive, it all depends on the seven-year-olds inserted in the room, if they are correct for what you have to do, the only possible mistake will be human. even with 2X converter the qualities of the images are really remarkable. I mentioned the weight, you may wonder why and maybe you will give me crazy, but the lens allows you to be used without monopod even for a whole football match without affecting the quality of the images.
