Pros: Ergonomics; zeiss optics; image quality; manual zoom; build quality; use with external power supply; Today's price
Cons: In some aspects he feels the weight of the years (see review)
Opinion: Intrigued by a video on YouTube, in December 2020 I bought this old camera. What can I say?.... I was pleasantly surprised. Despite the "only" 10.3 MPX manages to create really amazing files, despite being a hole of 2005. This is partly due to the excellent zeiss optics with which it is equipped, and the CMOS sensor in APS-C format. You can make prints of 30x45 format really enjoyable, and it is not a problem to go further. The ergonomics are really good! In spite of its particular appearance, which you may like or not (it drives me crazy), it falls very well in the hand and lets itself be used with pleasure. It does not skimp on buttons, wheels, and joysticks, to adjust all the parameters. I find it great that zooming, unlike most bridges, is manual and not electronic. This gives a more "real camera" feeling, and also allows you to switch more quickly from one focal length to another. The display is another peculiarity of this camera. Placed in the upper part, totally adjustable, and which can be used in "cockpit type" mode. Which makes it convenient, the use of the machine in lowered positions. Also interesting is the fact that it can be used, while it is connected to an external power supply, something that many newer cameras do not have. The build quality does not disappoint! Although the body is made of plastic materials, in the hand it conveys a sense of great solidity, and the weight of almost 1kg, makes you realize that you have a real camera in your hand instead of a toy. Excellent also the readiness of ignition. As soon as it turns on it is ready to shoot. Obviously it's not all pink and flowers .... We always talk about a camera that has its age, although, it has not aged badly at all.... The result of the EVF and the display are inadequate nowadays, if the display is just enough, the EVF is to be used only if strictly necessary. The iso seal is that of a room of almost 20 years ago '.... Above 800 iso it is better not to push. The operating speed is also what it is.... Especially in long exposures you have to wait a bit before you can shoot again. However, considering today's price (it is easily found at just over 100 euros), it is worth buying, even just out of curiosity. Especially if we consider that only the optics that mount, would be worth much more than what the hole chamber costs. But also for the historical value... In fact, this was the first bridge with Aps sensor, the first camera with a CMOS to work live view and also has other records that I do not remember now. In fact, it can be said that it was the forerunner of today's mirrorless. It's just a pity that this was not followed by a newer model. If sony produced a camera similar to this, with its current technologies, I think it would be a spectacular all-in-one, but they will never produce it, so I will continue to enjoy this one.... |
