Pros: Price, construction

Cons: Surrender

Opinion: I'm talking about the first version, it's not worth the 100-200 euros they require, no sharpness, bad edges. I had taken the Canon EOS M model but on the M5 it was really bad. It is true that in the portrait you do not need an absolutely sharp rendering, in some cases flu optics help to hide defects, but here we are talking about a fairly "improvised" optics the design reaches the brightness of F 1.1 but the defects are not correct.

Pros: Version II : "True" lens: solid, heavy, excellent clutch of the MAF bezel, already very good performance even at full aperture. Very sharp lens, with a crystalline and contrasted yield.

Cons: Version II: Manual focus? ..... you already know when you buy.... but eye: at f 1.1 it is difficult the correct MAF even with the focus peacking and everything else .... Then the bokeh... definitely the only note a bit out of tune. I would call it acceptable, "cute"..... but don't expect the blurry of an 85.

Opinion: I review version II..... which, I speak as a former owner of version I, is a completely different perspective. This is a "real" goal... too much: the lens is quite heavy and tends to unbalance the compact ML: let's say it looks good on a Fuji XT, ... on an Oly EM1.... definitely less on a Sony A6000, which tends to skew heavily forward. The overall yield is definitely good: at f1.1 not only is it very usable, but I would say that it is also already very sharp and detailed! The use is particularly pleasant: it seems anything but a "cinesata".... it gives, rather, the pleasant feeling of having a beautiful valuable luminous optics. All glass and metal.... It reminds me closely, albeit on a smaller scale as dimensions, of the 105 1.8 nikkor AIS, or the 135 nikkor f2 AIS.... and sorry if it's little! In my opinion, therefore, everything is fine ..... the only real flaw is bokeh: that it is not ugly, for heaven's sake!... but from an f 1.1 lens for APS one would expect "the equivalent" of what an 85 1.4 on FF could do, or at least almost. Instead we are definitely below as surrender. In essence: the "detachment of the planes" is that of a portrait lens, the blurred, unfortunately, no.

Pros: Compact, economical, bright, bokeh, decliccata ring for video, construction.

Cons: sharpness, declied photo ring

Opinion: Taken for fun at a few tens of euros, in ef-m version coupled to an M5. The construction is amazing, all metal, despite the compactness and limited weight give a good feeling of solidity. The focus is fluid, while the decliccable aperture ring is quite uncomfortable for photography, forcing you to continuously check the position both to vary it to the correct value and to verify that it has not moved (it happens often). The bokeh is creamy at TA and remains good even closed without ever becoming nervous (better e.g. canon ef 50 1.4). The contrast is pretty good as early as f1.1, and it was a nice surprise. The sharpness is very deficient at TA, of course it improves closing up to f11 (and then worsens again) but it is never really high. It is a lens that must be used with its peculiarities in mind: for landscape photos it is worse than a standard zoom such as the ef-m 18-55; So his natural field remains the portrait, with a very good detachment of the planes, and in which the lack of sharpness is not a handicap.

Pros: opening, size, solid construction, lampshade included in the price, optical yield

Cons: diaphragms' diaphragms, chromatic aberrations

Opinion: bought during the lock-down for the covid19 as a toy to pass me the time. tried on sony a6000. the diaphragms' diaphragms' dial is fluid, but precise, and makes it less difficult to focus at f/1.1 especially with the help of focus peaking. On the other hand, however, the diaphragms' diaphragms are deceitful, in my opinion it is a major defect if you shoot freehand or at night, since you risk accidentally changing the set opening (especially on such a compact lens). regarding optical yield, I found myself in front of a lens with a very "particular" yield. at f/1.1 the blurring is very soft, but despite the chromatic aberrations, the optical yield is still fully acceptable, closing from f/2.8 onwards becomes quite sharp and the aberrations are greatly reduced. p.s. I reviewed the first version. a second, sharper version with a smaller, but larger, minimum focus distance has recently been released

Pros: Construction, deceit, bokeh

Cons: some aberration but in relation to the non-determining price

Opinion: I note that my review refers to the MkII version of this optics which, compared to the first version, has undergone substantial improvements in its entirety. Heavy optics, metal, metal lampshade with screw attachment even inside to screw it on the barrel even with unused optics, annoying if you need to shoot maybe on the fly because the lampshade covers the ring of the maf, obscene gray cap difficult to block (at least my specimen). In the use it turns out to be a very fun optics to use, on fuji with the help of the maf you do not have big problems considering also the opening, a nice pasty bokeh, batterly colors quite saturated, coupled with the XH1 is well balanced, great for portraits, the sharpness is good enough even at full opening, but closing a stop aligns with the standards of optics of quite higher cost. Not very easy to find on the various online sites, my specimen I took used in excellent condition and I will keep it in my kit along with the xf fujinon, lens recommended for those who want to have fun with bright optics and regain confidence with the manual focus
