Pros: Speed, file quality, size, 4-year warranty (if regular import)

Cons: Price at exit

Opinion: I got hold of the Ricoh GR IV Monochrome about ten days ago. One of the few arrivals, I took it without hesitation. It's not the first Ricoh GR I've used – I've owned the GRII and GRIII for a long time. This GR IV Monochrome is a Ricoh GR, with all the advantages of the case (and also some disadvantages). It's fast, discreet, no one notices you or cares if you point it at them. In addition, it allows quick and effective settings for a Candid photograph (snap focus and/or DOF priority shooting). Excellent lens. The removal of the knurled rear ring is appreciable, which on the other GRs grates the fingers and after a while begins to play out. In its place there are now four nice buttons. The accuracy of the AF in low light was not great, but still better than how the GR III behaved with me. So far I have talked about the characteristics that even the "normal" GR IV has. In the Monochrome version, the monochrome sensor allows very high clarity images and this thing (now we know) is common to all monochrome sensors. Coupled with that lens, which in my opinion is more engraved than its sister GR III I had, it's a lot of stuff for that size. You go up in ISO which is a pleasure, almost forgetting about it, with a noise always apparently under control. The button that activates the red filter (mechanical, not electronic) is very convenient. Physical filter that makes you lose a few stops but guarantees a certain separation of grays when shooting: blue, green and orange, if illuminated in the same way, in grayscale are not very different from each other. Those who have made black and white on film know this and will realize the advantage that this button brings. To make a comparison, to have the same result on the Leica Q Monochrome you have to put and remove filters from the lens, losing the reactivity characteristics. The price is one of the downsides. It costs a lot to get out of the box: part of the reason is that it costs more to produce a monochrome sensor. But a combination of a Fujifilm X-e5 and a quality lens does not cost much less, with fewer advantages from the point of view of portability and practicality and greater for expandability.
