Pros: Sharp and clear pictures, easy manual focus ring and aperture ring. F4 aperture is perfect for low light wildlife photography, 300mm perfect for stalking and birds in flight shots.

Cons: It would be easy to say weight, but it isn't important for me. It's an old professional telephoto lens so old lens quality equal bigger weigth. Maybe a short lens hood is a little mistake, but I have a home made longer and better lens hood.

Opinion: I love this lens, one of my favourite MF lens. It's made from Pentacon, Praktica and Carl Zeiss materials so the $290-600 ebay price reflect the quality. I have a 500/5.6 Pentacon lens too but at F4 the 300mm lens is sharper and clearer than the 500mm at F5.6 without photoshop too. I use this lens with old Vivitar 2x MF teleconverter and I use this combinaton at F5.6 too. It working very well, so this lens is a perfect and dangerous weapon for any birder and wildlife photographer.

Pros: impressive construction, excellent focus even diaphragmatic, excellent detail and sharpness across the diaphragm

Cons: weight

Opinion: it's an imposing goal, big and heavy: I do not think it has only one plastic part (maybe plastic did not even exist when it was built). From what I have read on the web, it should have been designed for medium format (or something similar), which justifies both the size and the exceptional rendering on the whole frame also of the FF.rnThe focus requires the whole hand that, therefore, can not support the same goal.rnIo I used it with a monopod, which facilitates and makes it almost simple to focus.rnrn With due care, I also photographed car races, just focus in advance where you will then take and I must admit that the photos discarded outside were always few, same order of magnitude of a medium-range AF lens.rnrnIt 'really a great piece of glass ... and is a 300 f4.rn

Pros: Construction, materials, focus ring, preselection diaphragms, precise and reliable mechanics, fluid and precise movements; These are the constructive aspects. Optically very valid, details and engraving unsuspected for age, natural colors and well-calibrated contrast. Beautiful blurry and very progressive.

Cons: Considering the age of this lens, I would say no one.

Opinion: The first things that impress this lens are the weight and construction. Under operating conditions, attach 2.5 kg of glass and metal to the machine body, not always easy to manage. With this lens it is very advisable to use a body with stabilized sensor or a good tripod. If you can tame it, the satisfactions will come. Despite its age it is an optics that says its as a rendering of image and performance, it does not fear too much comparisons even with more modern lenses. The opening is regulated by a pre-selection diaphragm equipped with 19 slats, beautiful to see, enjoyable to use and that gives images with a beautiful blurry. The optical system provides images with many details even on dense sensors (24 mp APSc) without exaggerating with unnatural contrasts and colors. In astrophotography it shows a strong chromatic aberration when used at full aperture. Already diaphragm to f5.6 however the situation improves considerably and also benefits the yield on the details of nebular celestial bodies.... of course the required exposure times are lengthened but it is worth it. Given the generous size of the front lens (80mm of free opening), this lens is able to record even rather weak stars and a fair number of details about extended celestial bodies, obviously not in step with telescopic optics specifically designed for such use but... holds a decent bang if you don't claim absolute perfection. Of course it should be used with astroinseguitors, able to withstand its weight, or with small equatorial frames for proper stellar pursuit. The weight of this lens is considerable, therefore the use of an easel or a machine body with stabilized sensor benefits and not a little, both to avoid motion or microcosm, and to carry out the focus. The latter is almost millimeter since, the ring has an excursion of 3/4 lap. Ultimately a really good lens, not for all types of photography. Adapt more to thought-out shots or where operational speed is not required. Easy to fall in love with.
