Pros: Very compact and lightweight, perfect for small bodies. Plastic but solid construction, no "plasticky" feel. Extremely versatile 18-40 mm range for street/travel. Good sharpness over the entire range, hardly perceptible distortion. Negligible vignetting in real use. Neutral colour rendering, easy to work with. Pleasant bokeh despite the modest aperture. Effective and quiet AF for everyday use. Attractive price on the second-hand market.

Cons: f/4.5-6.3 maximum aperture: not ideal for those looking for very bright looks or maximum separation of planes. Not meant for extreme close-ups or specialist work.

Opinion: The Lumix S 18-40mm was practically tailor-made for compact FF and to be carried around without too many frills, I took it as the main lens for the Sigma BF: it is a compact and light full-frame zoom that does not distort the idea of "portable tile", but gives it a really useful focal range for street and travel. The construction is well made plastic, with no cheap feel, and the aesthetic and balance integration with the BF is very natural. On the optical level, it offers a convincing sharpness of 18 to 40 mm, hardly visible distortion, de facto unproblematic vignetting and a neutral color rendering that goes well with the already balanced JPEG of the BF. The bokeh is more than decent for an f/4.5-6.3 and the backlit behavior is correct, without invasive flares. The only real limit is the maximum aperture, those who demand extreme blur or often shoot in critical light will have to rely on the good ISO grip of the body. For the rest, taken used at a good price, it is a lens that makes a lot of sense: ideal for those who favor lightness, portability and "everyday street" use on compact L-mount bodies, with which it forms a coherent and pleasant kit to use.

Pros: Size and image quality

Cons: Brightness, initial rotation to activate zoom

Opinion: Taken in kit with the S5D it turned out to be a lens with excellent image quality, if it had arrived with the focal length up to 60mm it would have been a perfect all-rounder to be combined with the 70-300mm only. Although it is not particularly bright (indeed the aperture limited to 4.5-6.3 is certainly the worst defect) it did well even in the evening (thanks also to the excellent stabilization of the camera). The price for single (as I said I received it in kit) seems high to me.
