Pros: Image quality (largely due to the excellent lens), size, functional completeness

Cons: Wide-angle not wider than 28mm eq.; small, but not really pocket-sized; sufficient functionality, but, today, a bit outdated; Good battery life, but not great.

Opinion: After reading very happy comments about this camera I bought one and started shooting to see how it goes. Clearly, the comparison cannot be made with the latest sensor and extra bright lenses, but with a proper shot and careful post-production you can achieve results much higher than theoretical expectations; the lens is very good, extremely resolving (so, at a glance, I would say that it is the same lens that made the fortunes of the Fujifilm X20 and X30) and the sensor although small in size (but 12 mpxl in absolute are not very few) allows you to crop, adjust the tones and work on sharpness without great embarrassment, but developing with DXO anyway there isn't much of a need for it. The "creative" features (it would be more correct to say "pre-packaged" so as not to offend true creativity, but oh well) are as efficient as they could have been 12 years ago, in particular a bit outdated the Panorama which requires you to take a certain number of shots to have them glued together later on a PC by the Olympus software. The operating speed isn't great, but once you know you adjust; It would have been better if the wide-angle had reached the 24mm equivalent, but even with the 28mm you can do a lot of things; The cap that opens in a corolla shape when the lens extends outwards is very very practical and, overall, the small size compensates for many of the limitations due to the age of the project. As an owner of a Stylus 1 I also made some comparisons; well, no surprise: the higher brightness of the XZ-2's lens gives it an edge in many cases, even in bright light, while the Stylus 1's telephoto lens is an irreplaceable element. For the rest, with the same photographic characteristics, the results, of course, are superimposable. In making the Stylus 1 they have made room for a more capable battery improving the range, which in the XZ-2 is good, but not great. The XZ-2 is a hair lighter and more pocketable (but neither really is). In short, all in all a happy surprise.

Pros: Small, almost invisible, with excellent optics and good stabilization.

Cons: Noisy RAW files

Opinion: I bought it as soon as it came out, over a decade ago. It basically replaced 90% of the SLR I had. Finding it used, I added the EVF-3 electronic viewfinder even if, for almost all the photos, the tilting display is more comfortable. The problem of RAW noise remained, but I found the DxO software that recognizes the machine and brings out DNG or TIFF with a crazy definition. Now I alternate it with EM-5 for those situations where invisibility is necessary.

Pros: Colors colors and colors (Olympus surpasses the much acclaimed Fuji for color science and exposure profile management, lights and shadows), already beautiful jpegs that are ready to be set in every detail with the fundamental, indeed vital, possibility of totally deactivating noise-filterING (noise-filter OFF) responsible in all machines of "bewilderment" and loss of quality, within the iso 100-400 range produces rows to envy to much bulky and expensive equipment, real-time preview of the cultable profile (255-000) shadowlights and therefore never again "burned" shots, try in high contrast conditions on landscape never sang to me the exposure nor "burned" a frame!, highlight/shabow curve modifiable in liveview in real time, in B/N it is possible to climb from iso up to 1200 with production of a fantastic grain , finally and not least the SuperFine profile in compression jpg almost nothing vital, poses B up to 16 minutes, of course finally the possibility of shooting in RAW totally workable even with the very valid olympus software.

Cons: For the price at which none of anyone is today belonging to the noise above 600ISO but this is not a defect as it is precisely of the small sensor itself.

Opinion: Taken out of curiosity as in excellent condition but bad to repair (firmware error) on ebay for 100 Euros just arrived I made a hard reset of the ROM and it started working again. Tried and amazed me! but really amazed!... it is part of the sensor size, for color sealing, keeping high lights and shadows, jpg and setability... you drink (considering the limits of the sensor!) at low iso the famous fuji, sony and beautiful company. Of course it should not be compared to a FF... but for 100 euros it is an unreciable jewel also valid in 2021! I very much hope that JIP will collect the glorious legacy of Olympus (DO NOT CHANGE the firmware and jpg engine) as the oly machines if well set are a spanna above the others... Forgot... makes MACRO SCARY! Plus with noise reduction off (Noise-Filter OFF) and iso within 400 photos have a SCARY sharpness when compared to the sensor! 100% peepando on the landscapes there are even micro-details in the trees in the background! This little gem beats some strange machinone with "sensorone" with results definitely NOT compact! If only JIP (Olympus) made a version with the 1-inch sensor you know what! It would be a must buy on day one. If you get a chance in the used on the xz2 take it on the fly it is a unique car. I dare not imagine what it is and what a... PEN-F ;)

Pros: Optics and final yield excellent for quality and yield.

Cons: Sightist not present except as an accessory.

Opinion: Taken out of curiosity a couple of years ago knowing the skills of her older sister Stylus1, at first I was puzzled by the size of her not really generous sensor, so as a first test I took some evening photos in the blue hour, fundamental test for me, well no I was so amazed at the yield that I preferred it to the reflex I had, for so many reasons. By setting its many settings well you get perfect photos, even at the level of electronic noise considering its sensor, in addition to the fact that I shoot only at 100 ISO , never at higher sensitivities, has beautiful colors, an optical for me right and essential for its focal, 28 - 112 mm, an excellent opening of f1.8 - 2.5 , I also have a wide-angle converter of excellent workmanship of the Konica-Minolta that brings the focal to 21 mm in case of need, which I never use but from some tests made of an excellent yield ,excellent stabilization that between it and the large opening allows excellent shots with low sensitivity. It has many other applications such as various filters and more that I never use, for now, built-in flash, sled for external flash and external electronic viewfinder, as well as an excellent solid and compact metal construction. I shoot directly in to jpg because the files come out perfect from the camera and do not need special shrewdness in the PP. A travel camera that does not make the reflex regret, at least the mid-range ones. I gave away reflex and lenses replacing them with this compact except for the type of photonaturalisal that needs appropriate equipment.

Pros: For the purpose for which it is thought it is almost perfect that you can always have it in your pocket and take home good photos in almost all circumstances!

Cons: a bit 'noisy sensor

Opinion: A great traveling companion, fantastic and feature-rich electron optics. If I have to find fault is that the sensor is a little 'noisy, probably with a sensor 1 "type Sony RX-100 would be the perfect portable machine. Too bad that Olympus has rejected the idea of ??giving an heir to this model. rnUsata in RAW and manually managed to take home great shots of moving subjects indoors without using flash (ambient light was still good) .rnrnOlympus give us a XZ-3 with sensor 1 "and the same optics!
