Pros: "old mold" optics, not plastic, from a sense of robustness, very versatile in various genres, very beautiful colors even without intervening in post, certainly sharpness is not like modern optics, but its cost in used makes the thing take second place ......

Cons: sincerely for what I paid for it used, no one, not very sharp perhaps, does not have VR and maybe a bit of flare (I read in previous reviews that this defect could be present ...)

Opinion: purchased used, immediately liked, with the unassperated sensor of the D4/D4s is still manageable, robust construction, I did not perceive the slow AF, also because with such a short optics ..... size and minimum weight, if we think about its construction; at the minimum focal point (20mm) distorts almost nothing, it remains a wide-angle optics pushed with the intrinsic "defects" that carry all the optics of the genre with them. his favorite field of action for me remains the street but also the panoramic, I did not have the opportunity to photograph with the direct sun in the frame, we will see what it combines ... if you find it used little [I bought it for about 250€, without a lampshed (found used not original on Amazon) at 15€, but at the new look....) take it and have fun.

Pros: Sharpness, little distortion, compact, 77 mm diameter filters.

Cons: Flare and backlight yield

Opinion: I use it on the d700 and bought it to have a non-extreme wide-angle zoom that would mount filters. I'd say great lens, no frills. For me a great purchase. The only two points against concern the lampshed, which is an optional, HB8 code that original costs 20-30 euros but is difficult to find, but above all the yield with the sun in the frame is not at all satisfactory, purple halos are created impossible to postprodduct.

Pros: Well-built lens. Solid and reliable. Ghetto fluidity.

Cons: Diaphragm ring jamming into 3 specimens that I had in my hands. For those who own it, could you tell me if it is just as much a factory defect as all the Nikon specimens?

Opinion: Magnificent optics in every sense. Af reactive. Smooth and soft rings that move even with a single finger. Reliable and pleasant to use. A great reportage goal. With greater effort Nikon could make him return better sharpness to the edges at F2.8 and F4. That's a shame. Otherwise excellent optics. The excellent distortion correction at 20 mm is truly exemplary.

Pros: Bright, focal range, 77 filters, construction, appearance

Cons: Remarkable drop in sharpness at the edges, focus distance.

Opinion: A lens that goes well with digital machines. That said, it's a slow granite, with extremely satisfying shapes, and that guarantees at a reduced price (about 300 euros used but also less) a good wide angle at 2.8. Twenty millimeters for me is a great focal point, maybe by today's standards a little long for certain uses but 20-35 mm is all you need when walking down the street. I would have kept it if it were not for the lack of sharpness at the edges that is also noticeable to the medium diaphragms (I used it on the D3, 12 Mp). Too bad because it costs 1/3 of the other wide angles. However, I must add that I have badly digested the 0.5 meters as the minimum distance of focus. Maybe he's not among the better-aged Af-Ds.

Pros: Construction,size,colors,general performance,robustness, aesthetics, simplicity,2.8

Cons: Flare, at the corners

Opinion: I've been pointing it out for a while, trying to get as much info as possible about it. Unfortunately, it is not a famous lens and on the web the info is not many... Found used, but in very good condition at a very advantageous price. I liked it right away, because it covers excellent focal points for my needs. It's a 2.8. it does not have electronics that makes it delicate, in my view it is aesthetically beautiful, it is part of the VERI Nikon. It took me a while to appreciate it. As soon as I arrived, I was disappointed. The first pictures/evidence, it was a total crap!! Then I realized that the very swinging yield, was due to a slight Back Focus. After correcting, the optics changed character. At 2.8, the yield is good in the middle, but as soon as you deviate its sides, the definition drops a lot until you get to be almost nothing at the extreme edges and, above all, at the corners. From f4 you have, on the other hand, a marked improvement.... From 5.6 and up, it gets awesome. There are ACEs, which accentuate the problems to large openings, but just a click to solve the problem. Excellent the absence of distortion, which at 20mm is almost nothing. I really like his surrender. Soft tones and shadows never closed and the colors are quite faithful. The only defect absolutely impossible to tame, are the flares.... Unmanageable. If the sun enters the frame, they are all bitter zebedei, because the flares are there, there are many and they are well present. And ugly too!! The construction is great. Glass and (most) metal. There's no point in electronics, so there's nothing to break. The dials are well taken and the front lens does not protrude. It's not a modern optic, so that's it.... Except perfect. But it's part of those optics that had a character of their own. It has to be understood. And in any case, he absolutely knows how to deliver great results. Do I recommend it? Yes. Absolutely!!
