Pros: Amazing viewfinder, image quality, top ergonomics, menu and key ring configuration
Cons: Fixed LCD, Footprint
Opinion: Image quality: The SL2 is equipped with a great 47.3 megapixel full-frame sensor, which offers sharp details and a great dynamic range. The images captured are rich in detail and have a vaguely analog look that makes it preferable to other models that are very similar on paper such as the Panasonic S1R. The grain, also present at medium ISO (3200) is not annoying and has no chromatic noises, easily eliminated in post and in any case never intrusive or annoying overmost. Sturdy Construction: The camera has an all-metal frame and a leather cover that ensures durability and strength, it truly looks like a tank. Plus, it's rated with an IP54-certified rating, making it weather-resistant. High-quality electronic viewfinder: The electronic viewfinder, one of the most beautiful I've ever had the opportunity to use, offers 100% coverage and a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. This makes the composition of the images precise and comfortable. Fast and accurate autofocus: The SL2 has 225 AF areas, allowing for fast and accurate focusing. Being only contrast, it is not ideal for fast-moving subjects or very dynamic situations, however, if used carefully it provides great satisfaction. Ergonomics and intuitive controls: this is a strong point that differentiates it from so much competition, the layout of the buttons and dials is very well studied, making it easy to access the main settings. The user interface is basic, but extremely intuitive and customizable in a very simple way. It is a machine that after a few hours of use, seems to have always known and this, in the current scenarios, is a point of excellence. Connectivity is modern and adequate: The SL2 is equipped with WiFi and a USB-C port that also allows charging without removing the battery. This allows for fast image transfer. The remote management via app is great, super easy app and also allows RAW transfer to your phone. This is a very nice treat, using Apple, I immediately transfer the raw to the phone and as soon as I get home, I find them nice and ready on the Mac. Sleek design: The combination of high-quality materials and minimalist design make the SL2 an aesthetically pleasing camera that is very pleasant to use. In summary, the Leica SL2 is an excellent choice for enthusiasts who are looking for a versatile, durable camera capable of producing high-quality images combined with great pleasure in use. Personally, I would have preferred a slightly smaller car, not so much, but a little smaller. This is because I often use it with the L-shaped plate, or if I go to places where I fear I can ruin it, I use a pad to protect it and with these accessories it becomes really "imposing"! |
