Pros: 100% Leica

Cons: For my needs none

Opinion: After about 40 years of amateur photography, I feel like having my say about the Leica M10 R. I came to Leica M after several changes, my first camera was a Yashica Electro 35 GT, after a few years I moved to the Olympus OM1 with 35 50 and 135 and later to the Leica M4, M6, Canon G9, G10 and Leica M8 with various Leica lenses, the last of which were Elmarit M 24 2.8 Asph, Summicron M 35 2 Asph, Summicron 50 2 and Elmarit 90 2.8. I have never liked the M8 for its well-known characteristics that for me are defects that is, only 10.3 mpx, digital noise already from 400 iso, Aps H sensor and a shot with embarrassing noise. Having to make a trip where the Leica would have been tight for me, I bought a Fuji XE1 changed shortly after with the XE2s and later with the XE3, which I still have, with several Fuji lenses of which I kept three, the 14 2.8 Asph, the classic 18-55 2.8-4 and the 55-200 3.5-4.8. Thanks to the past pandemic that forced us at home for long days and reading reviews to pass the time I convinced myself to sell the M8 and the Elmarit 24 that I did not use to buy, obviously not at par, the Q2. The Q2 with its 28 was exceptional, quite compact, being able to go out with a single camera without the lenses was a great convenience and the files were perfect. Accustomed to using real 35, 50 and 90 I realized that I didn't like cropping in the machine so I decided to make yet another change and leap in quality, I sold the Q2, the Summicron 35 asph and the Summicron 50 for, always not on par, the M10R with Super Elmar 21 3.4 Asph, Apo Summicron 50 2 asph later integrated with a Voigtlander Ultron 28 II and a Nokton 35 1.5, I still have the legendary ninety Elmarit. What can I say about the M10R that has not already been said by those who preceded me, a valuable object built with maniacal materials and care, not very light but small in size and minimalist as I like it, there is everything you need and nothing more, fixed lenses with manual focus which, in addition to being notoriously valuable, they are also small in size precisely because they do not have autofocus. The M10R differs from the M10 mainly for two features, it has an imperceptible shutter, beaten only, personal opinion, from that of the M6 and the 41 mpx sensor which are many but, in my opinion, it has more advantages than disadvantages, if it is true that files over 40 mpx are heavy, it is equally true that for those who love the crop they give greater cropping margins and you can make larger prints, It is also true that in JPEG there is the possibility to choose between three resolutions, 40, 20 and 6 Mpx. In short, what can I say, camera and optics are perfect for the use I usually make of them, and it is not insignificant, weight and dimensions are reduced. It could be my definitive trousseau, even if with my past there is always a: never say never.

Pros: Image rendering, construction quality, highlights recovery, viewfinder, long exposures up to 16min, resolution, grain, value hold, very soft and silent shutter.

Cons: Cost, possibility of "sensor bifurcation" on some specimens, bad electronic viewfinder 020, cost of batteries.

Opinion: Bought at a great price also considering the possibility of testing the files so as to eliminate the variability of sesnori that Leica unfortunately has not controlled in the m10r and m10m (and m11). Tested and almost absent the problem I began to enjoy it on a broad spectrum. Unfortunately it is the obligatory body if you are psychological slaves of the spectacular Lenses Leica M, Voigt M, Zeiss zM. Yes, those lenses go divinely and with some of those glasses, the APO or the precious slightly closed we are close to the yields of higher formats. Needless to talk about the advantages of the rangefinder and the body itself, if you want you know why. Here compared to the sister m10 you have resolution, recoveries in spades, soft shutter and touch screen. Compared to the m240 you have a much slimmer body, excellent viewfinder and a much more functional menu system with obvious advantages of resolution and recoveries. Compared to the m9.. well... it's like comparing an m3 of 1985 against one of 2020... neither more nor less even if it must be said that at ISO base if you do not print in large sizes or look at 100% monitors there is not this great detachment. For? those above, and I repeat.. ONLY solution if we exclude the new m11 to have serious resolution to squeeze the exceptional lenses that you can mount here and that only make the most here. Compared to the m11 we have the latest version with removable caseback, sensor that is not always exposed, which still maintains an advantage in mechanical shooting in speed and silence. Against? ridiculous or too expensive evf viewfinder in the version for M11.. battery cost (140 pounds for a Leica rebranded VARTA, we are ridiculous even considering the bad capacity and the competition), possibility of the electronic problem of the bifurcation of the sensor that divides the frame with a line from top to half as soon as the contrast with clear skies moves in some specimens, not really a serious CQ ... Sublime body, seriously. Using it makes you smile and is addictive.
