Pros: Compactness, manageability and lightness; Crazy image quality and color science; Continuous and tracking autofocus; ISO sealing; Aesthetically beautiful; Cost.

Cons: Q key; Only 4 custom slots; absence of viewfinder, flash, tropicalization and stabilization.

Opinion: I state that I am an amateur but I have been photographing anyway since the days of film, being now 50 years old; I will talk about this camera only from the photographic side as I do not make videos, except for one every death of the pope. A few months ago I decided to treat myself to this little gem impressed by the absurd specifications in such a compact body. Well after a few thousand photos I have to say that I didn't regret it at all, on the contrary. First of all, I must say that the machine is solid despite the predominantly plastic construction; My sample is black and I sincerely recommend this color as it is very elegant. Even if I have to deal with basic ergonomics (which is why I immediately added a great Smallrig grip) and with the hated side-opening screen, I still have to say that I love this camera for a very simple reason: it takes incredible photos! All the film simulations currently offered by Fuji are present, including the Nostalgic Negative which for me is beautiful. The resistance to high ISO is amazing, so much so that I feel like saying that up to 6400 the files are absolutely usable (in BN you can even go to 12800 as long as you accept a little grain). The autofocus in AFS works as always very well but the good news is that thanks to the X-processor 5 even the AFC is finally at decent levels, with eye/face tracking and subject tracking that work very well. Despite the not very numerous function keys, I was able to customize the machine exactly as I like it, also taking advantage of the very useful touch shortcuts. Speaking of the screen: in general it is fine and the touch is very responsive, but I would have preferred a little more brightness; Not that it is not possible to shoot even under the sun with the right precautions, but it is obvious that you will never have the immersive experience of a camera with a viewfinder. The Q key is another sore point, it is actually a problem to operate as it is small and recessed, so I ended up remapping it to the REC key, I don't make videos anyway. The infamous film ring can be considered useless but in my opinion, if you know how to exploit it, it is not at all: it is true that it is not possible to use the recipes in the FS1/2/3 positions contrary to what happens on XE5 and XT30 III, but I remedied it by saving a Tri-X 400 recipe on the main menu and reserving a different color filter for each of the FS positions; on the ACROS position I then simply kept the simulation without filters. In any case, it is possible to take advantage of the 4 custom slots of the mode ring to save other recipes. However, summing up, despite the obvious limitations deriving from the extreme compactness and the lens of use like "vlogger", I would like to say that this camera is a real jewel, an object that really makes you want to go out and photograph. In my case, the very small size and weight combined with the amazing 27 f2.8 pancake make it the perfect combo for "everyday photography": when I can I always carry it with me and I am extremely satisfied. Vote 9.

Pros: Dimensions, build quality, AI, aesthetics, very comfortable film simulation ring

Cons: There is no optional digital viewfinder

Opinion: I state that I have been passionate about photography for 50 years, since I was 12, so I understand something about it. I have owned hundreds of cameras and I like to try them all so I change them often, in this period I am not particularly interested in the search for pixels but more in portability because I also think that the best camera is the one that is always with you. I bought this camera with some doubts due to the absence of the viewfinder but I found it splendid, compared to the fuji I had (almost all) there have been giant steps thanks to AI. I don't like automatisms that don't leave me in control because they have often disappointed me, moreover I'm of the film generation and I'm used to managing everything myself and I shoot to have the final photo as in the days of film, (also because I hate PP), I don't like to fight with systems that have a life of their own and don't do what I would like, this machine, on the other hand, in addition to having an excellent IQ, definitively conquered me one day when I suddenly found myself in a birthday party of a one-year-old nephew, indoors, with mixed lights, and a lot of aunts who snatched it from their hands, a real hut, and the car I just bought was set up for something else, so panicked at the crucial moment of the cake I put EVERYTHING on automatic and thought: let's see what happens. Well, I was stunned: perfect wb but above all AF and identification of the subject incredible: despite the mass of screaming aunts between the feet (to put it mildly) the camera seemed to know exactly what the subject was, it always focused perfectly on the child in all the shots despite passing from one aunt to another, it seemed that it knew perfectly which was the subject to follow, I attribute this ability to the use of AI because my other Fujis would never have been able to do it. All the shots came out perfect and everyone liked them, sent directly via app to those present, with the consequent rip-off that I have now been appointed official photographer of the baptism in church in two weeks. I also had at least 5 or 6 Sony level notes for excellent AF but it was me who had to tell him which was the subject to follow while this fuji figured it out on its own for the whole evening, I was stunned! Of course, the downside is that you feel useless and without merit, as if you had cheated. Later I wanted to change it with a Ricoh GR3x of which I am very happy even if the AF is mediocre but it has other remarkable merits and I always keep it in my pocket, but I was in love with this little monster Fuji and I couldn't resist, I just bought it again and I'll keep both: one for my pocket and one for my handbag. I got used to the absence of the viewfinder: just attribute the adjustment of the brightness of the display to the personal menus or to the fn keys, moreover since I use only fixed lenses I bought some optical viewfinders for photos on the beach under the strong sun. On the M5 I also have a folding lens hood for the display, bought in the Amazon for a few euros, which can be put on and taken off in a moment and works well, it has a simple elastic band to pass behind the display and when you don't use it it folds and you put it in your pocket. But let's say that by now cell phones are getting us used to it, it's no longer a drama. To conclude, the used car for street, family photos and portraits is highly recommended for me.

Pros: Size and weight; X-Processor 5 (the same as the X-T5); proven sensor (26MP X-Trans); joystick; configurability; construction; value for money; aesthetics.

Cons: Absence of stabilization; Q key; Unable to configure the Film Simulation Dial

Opinion: A premise: I don't talk about the video because I don't make any. Moving only to the photographic field, it is a camera that should be taken into consideration precisely for its lightness and compactness: with a pancake like the 27 you are on minimum dimensions and weights (X-M5 + 27 2.8 = 439 grams). And with only 755 grams you can carry 18 f2, 27 f2.8 and 50 f2 in a camera bag: a complete and bright set of fixed lenses. The quality of the materials is good, and not cheap at all: the aesthetics are also beautiful. The sensor is the 26 mounted on the X-T4, but managed by the new X-Processor 5 processor, the same as the X-T5. Fuji image quality with the possibility of film simulations. The position of the fundamental keys and dials, configurable, is comfortable and functional: the joystick is extremely useful. The screen is adequate, although it is certainly not in line with the latest specifications. The AF is good and the eye-face recognition is good. Defects: the absence of the stabilizer for me is the main one. Of course, space is limited, but the Micro teaches that it is possible. Another mention should be made of the "Q" button on the Quick Menu, recessed flush between the main dial and the rear dial: it is not easy to reach with your finger. It is also not possible to configure the film simulation dial (which, for those who use only JPEGs, is convenient). The battery life, which is the classic W126S (the one of the X-T4, to be clear), is better than I expected: probably for the management of the new processor, at least 400 shots are taken without problems. Finally, on the question of the viewfinder: if presence is essential for you, don't take it... into consideration! It is a machine designed in this way! In conclusion: if you want a compact room, which you can put in the pocket of a jacket, or a second third-body with good value for money, it could be an excellent choice. And it could be a great choice for street lovers too.
